We started the season out here in NW Montana with a pretty serious snowpack deficit. The dealers were awash in A-Arm replacements and I went through a spindle on my Mountain Horse on one of my first few rides. Many of our common play areas were so low on snow I could hardly recognize many of the normally snow covered features. Rock everywhere, stumps all over the place, and generally a pissed winter recreation mood all over... skiers and motorized folk were both crying.
Fast forward to this week and it just keeps on dumping. March has been our month for adding to the snow-pack and we just past our average snow depth for the year last week. Is March the new January? Seems like every year the snow comes later and later and we end up extending our seasons well into June and hear stories about the seriously dedicated going out on the 4th of July for a full day ride up high.
I would like to see more snow earlier too since everyone has the itch and throws caution (and repair money) to the wind just so we can all get out there. But honestly, I'm ok with this. It means I spend more months out of the year playing in the snow than not..... and that's just fine by me.
