So, here's an interesting rumor. I stopped in at my local dealer last Friday and the mechanic told me that Volvo bought Polaris. Anyone else heard this ???

No. But Polaris did acquire GEM (Global Electric Motorcars).

From sledspace.com:

Polaris Industries has announced an agreement to acquire Global Electric Motorcars LLC (GEM), a wholly owned Fargo, North Dakota-based subsidiary of Chrysler Group LLC and manufacturer of premium electric-powered vehicles. GEM is the recognized leader within the low-speed vehicle market, with a well-respected brand and approximately $30 million in sales during the 2010 calendar year. Since the company was established in 1998, they have placed more than 45,000 electric-powered vehicles on the road worldwide. GEM has developed business-to-business sales expertise within the fleet and government vehicle markets, and has created a competitive advantage with core competencies in make-to-order vehicle fulfillment and mobile service support.

“GEM provides Polaris with an established position in the low-emission small vehicle market and supports Polaris’ strategy of penetrating on-road market segments poised for growth,” said Scott Wine, Polaris chief executive officer. “We are excited about the outlook for growth within this market space, and are looking forward to developing even stronger growth prospects for the GEM business.”

The agreement to acquire GEM will officially close within the next 60 days once Polaris secures the required state sales certifications to sell GEM products. During this interim period, since Polaris will not yet have officially acquired GEM, operations will proceed as usual and Polaris will continue to learn and understand the GEM business through information exchange. Following this interim period, Polaris will be in a position to outline specific plans for the GEM business.

Polaris is a public company. If they were bought by anyone it would be required by law to be disclosed in a matter of hours and probably hit the financial news services before it was even made public.

Polaris appears to be rolling along stronger than ever... if you look at their financials you will see that it would be VERY costly for someone to buy them.

The weight of the batteries has to be killer, and possibly the reason for the short range. Where did they have them mounted, could you see?

Sounds like Polaris might be planning some more electric vehicles to their fleet. Good business, lots of government money there.

Good business, lots of STOLEN money there.

I wish people would stop using the term "Government Money". It's not the government's money, it's my money, your money, OUR MONEY!

Sorry for the rant, just tired of our money being blown on stupid $h!+!!!

And the cesspool of corruption continues................

Old Johnny Carson statement of fact during his monologue,

It was so cold in Chicago the other day, there was a politician standing on the street corner, and he had his hands in his own pockets.

And the cesspool of corruption continues................................................

I thought they might have bought them so they could acquire some competent Electrical Engineers to build a Voltage Regulator and E.C.U. for the sleds that would last

Now that right there is funny.

Polaris

Even I can put a couple of zener and schottky diodes in line to protect the CPU but I can't figure out why they can't make a regulator stay together.

This is off subject but...

I work for government so you don't have to tell me about the waste! But I will tell you this. Those decisions on funding come from the top and you know who is there. That administration is dropping big money on anything remotely close to environmental friendly "stuff". It's a good time to be in solar, electrical, wind or anything green powered. And knowing that all I have is to vote Republican or Democrat means that money is "government" money because I can't spend it myself. I get what you are saying though.
