Is It Time to Go Back To Yamaha - Nytro

I bought a 2004 RX-1. Did not add a Turbo. Smooth sled, reliable and trouble free. Problem was I was beat at the end of the day from getting it unstuck. The sled would not climb and was not competitive with the 2 strokes on the flat . I bailed and went to to an 07 Rev. Love the handling and comfort of the sled. A buddy just bought a Nytro with a Turbo. Rode it on the flat and seemed to handle similar to the Rev. Does the Nytro handle similar to the Rev in the mountains. Do you feel the extra weight. Is it time to go back to the 4 stroke?

it feels like a rev until you get it stuck! ( you feel the extra weight)and with less power. it needs a turbo to go good.

they handle really good for the "lack of HP". boondocks great & wil get you where you need to go ALL DAY LONG. with the possibility of much more, it's a great stocker. (does need a track & a little tuning)

I don't know about this.....Yes, it's heavier than the XP....BUT, it's really really close in weight to my '05 Rev 151. The '07 Summit feels heavy when it gets stuck, too, in comparison to the XP. Heck, after a long day, the XP feels heavy when it's stuck!!! What I'm getting at is that there really isn't much difference when you get a 500# or 580# sled stuck. You're looking at a 15% total weight difference, of which you MIGHT only feel about 40% of that difference (unless you are HE Man and can lift the entire sled out of it's hole....in which case I definitely want to ride with you!!!) So, an extra 30-35 # of lifting force split up between 2 or 3 guys pulling a sled out.....Yeah, boy does that extra 10 pounds suck!!!! NOT!

People need to get over the numbers. It's really not that big of a deal. It's not like we are comparing a TNT to an Apex. The weights are in the ballpark, and therefore, IMO, are so miniscule that it's not worth focusing on. What is important, however, is longevity and fun factor.

The Nytro won't be the all time hi-marker, it won't be busting trails in the steep and deep without getting stuck, and it won't out run everything on the trails......but it's my favorite sled and the easiest to carve and throw around. Definitely more bang for my buck!!!

So, can we get off the "oh, it's so heavy!"??

I agree with Butta,

They feel the same when stuck. I have gotten both out and I can't tell the difference.

I agree with Butta aswell, besides the weight difference. There is a good spread between everything and the XP, hands down. But in comparison to our 05' rev, full of fuel, they are really close.
In riding them, the Nytro will break over easier, and hold a great sidehill. But up hill in some good snow, it will not climb with the Rev. Sure its close, but as close as a 700 is to a 800. On the flats the Nytro will run with them good, but lack the top end HP to keep up with them once it turns uphill.

Fantastic sled though.

My last sled was a RX-1, now I am on a nytro as far as getting unstuck you will notice a big difference between the two sleds(the nytro is a dream compared to the rx1). Go for it! It is time haha

Well I cant lift a Tundra out when its buryed by myself so the weight isnt that big of a deal. And we are going to try a 4 stroke sled...ya its not a turbo Apex or a Nitro its a Phazer. Just cant swing the $$$$ for the bigger one this year. I am burned out on replaceing rings , pistons, buying oil. I think a 4 stroke sled will be alright to bomb around on. Right nowYamaha seems to be ahead of the pack with 4 stroke sleds, so yes time to go back!!! Dino

I agree here....I think the biggest advantage the REV has over the Nytro is the 16" wide track. I would love to see a comparison on the same hill with 2 stock Nytro's, one with a 16" Challenger and one with the stock 15" Maverick. I really think it makes a difference.

I ride a doo now but my next sled will be a Nytro. A little more weight BUT I'll know it will run all day every day and get me back to the truck.

Been on the Doo's for 10 years, got sick of the "motor go boom" thing. I joined the dark side 2 month's ago (bought a Nytro). Handles better than my Rev and just turn the key and go.

In stock form this sled is very close to my Rev in performance, just does not have all the issues, (I Hope) to me that's worth it. I would have missed a lot of good rides last year if I did not have 2 sled's (04 & 05 Rev's)

you know 2 of my buddy have nytros and i have the xp. and we switch sleds to ride, i agree the nytro feels good carving, but a few things, its not close racing on a lake, climbing or boon docking, not to say its not a good sled, i did like it but it lacks power! and it probably carves good because of the 15 wide track, but to say it runs with the xp, sorry it does not!! and when we both get stuck there is a difference in weight pulling it out and you feel it!

at least the nytro has an option to go with a turbo ,then where will the little pine cone be (STUCK IN AW):D

I have an apex and a nitro turbo, so far i think the apex "feels" lighter just because of the way i have it set up and i need to make some changes to the nitro yet. set up and center of gravity are more important than actual weight. As for the rev, well every time I ride one it wears me out, they are a pig to wrestle around in the pow and really don't impress me, and trust me i'm one of thoses guys that if I thought a rev was better i'd have one cuz I could care less about what lable it has on it.

I am more worried about how it handles and feels when its moving rather than when its stuck cuz I spend more time riding than I do getting stuck!

one thing I do know is stock sucks! I love my boost!

I have been thinking about the Nytro but am having a hard time giving up the serious go my T-Cat has. Note for comparison sake I have spent a lot of time and money on my sled 520 lb Tcat turning a 162x16x2.25 track.

the Nytro seem very nimble, rode one at Arcticman last year, but the engine braking was odd. And its hard to give up that 190HP pull your arms off to 100 motor.

That being said I know myself well enough to know that if I was unhappy with the power I would fix that. Why did they put a 15 wide track under the sled. I would think a 153x16 or 162x16 would have been a better track it seems to have the torque to pull it. I do like the Mav in the soft snow though.

Real question is, is it worth the 10G's I would have to drop to get a 135HP sled.

No I do not think it is, BUT It is worth 18G's to have a 280 HP sled !!!:D

I agree, Turbo Nytro is the way to go. I hope it will be a long term problem free sled.

Every sled is a ticking time bomb. Yamaha 4-stroke tick a lot slower than just about anything else out there.

Tortiose and the Hare, reliability means a lot. Someone said that there is no comparision between the XP and the Nytro. No sh&t, there is a 100 and something pounds differance and 15hp differance as well. The Nytro is outstanding in the flat deep snow and in the trees. Its very agile and the fun factor is through the roof.

So stock to stock they are simular in very different ways:rolleyes:. Personally I would rather have a platform (sled) with the option to mod with a high level of reliability.

Go for the Nytro, you won't be disappointed.:)
