Is it still possible to chip a 2008 Duramax?

So I have a 2008 Duramax and since it is just now going off warranty and I won't have to worry about voiding it I was thinking of chipping the Truck. However I have heard rumors that the 2008 model can not be chipped. Does anyone out there know if it is possible and if so is it worth it.

There are lots of options. If you modify the truck in any way, you need to do a dpf delete exhaust, which will get rid of the emissions equipment the EPA requires. Then you will need tuning to stop the engine functions and sensors that go along with the stock exhaust. You're best option for tuning is efilive. It is a custom tune in your computer from a laptop. No chip is installed. The only other option I would recommend is h and s. They are a tuner, but come in a downloadable package with a screen and gauges. If you want any more info or prices let me know. Hope this cleared it up a little, also duramaxforum will have a ton of reading for ya.

Yea you can delete it with EFI live. That would need aftermarket exhaust etc. Pretty sure ATP trucks now do EFI live with DPF still intact. Just give Rob a call. He's the Duramax God. Any questions let me know.

my dad has efilive on his dmax. got a conservative towing tune. i have H&S on my 6.4 PS and love it. put it to now power when towing, turn up to hot when driving empty. added gauges are nice, easy to install, factory tunes work great (on my ford but i would assume they would be dialed on duramax as well)

I got an EFI live setup and MBRP exhaust on my 2008 Dmax. Get the tune and everything from Idaho Rob at ATP Trucks. Running it for about 5 months now. They have the best DPF delete tunes for the Dmax. I have a stock tune with DPF I can switch to as well. Mine hardly smokes at all without the DPF and I make great power and 3-4 MPG better. Get the DPS5 switch so you can switch tunes on the fly. On the DPF delete tune, I have a stock tune, heavy tow tune with turbo brake, light tow tune with turbo brake, performace/street tune (which I use daily, gets best MPG), and extreme tune (never use it, possible to slip Allison trans running it. Would rather have a smoke tune). Also make sure you do gauges with EGT and boost. I did an pillar setup and was able to get a local body shop to paint match the pillar to the stock greyish headliner color. You can do a digital gauge too with Edge, but it's more pricey.

any household name tuner is good that offers EFi live. Duramaxtuner.com, anarchy diesel, atp trucks and so on. Search some duramax forums to find the best info but, EFI live will be your best option, even if you want to keep all the stock exhaust parts on they still offer good tunes. Do not refer to them as "chips" anymore, the proper way is "tunes".
