Is BRP paying for gear changes?

Read it on Doo Talk...must be true.
I talked to my dealer a few days ago and he figured that brp is going to pick up the tab on the gear changes after the new year and he showed me the wider belt there going to and if you blow any belts they would warrenty them.
Keep fingers crossed

Had my XP in to the dealer to get it geared and clutched. They sent me on my way without having to pay a cent. They said they would leave the w/o open until next week. They also traded my strung out belts for new with no questions asked. After the gearing and clutching changes I pushed the front of the motor over 1mm and have had no issues since.

Part number for wider belt????????

Thought i had a 19 tooth top gear in my 163 like the book says......nope, got a 21 top gear like a 146 should have.....Fack you BRP!!!!!!

The owners manual says 19/45, but another thread says they have 21/49,
which works out to about the same ratio

Relax...your bottom gear is larger, you have much lower gearing than a 146"

If that is true, then that is actually a better combination. You should run as large of top gear as you can.

21/49 is what the 163's are coming with, very close to 19/45.... with same driver the 21/49 is slightly higer at 2.333 while 19/45 is 2.368. A 20 top gear on the 163 would put us at 2.45, not really sure if it needs that much

Does someone know if you can go to a 20 top on the 163 without having to replace the chain?

I made that comment based off of what Cutlers suggests, and that is to keep the largest top gear possible when deciding on gearing.

What is the center to center distance of the gears?

Not sure about the center to center... I agree running as much gear as possible is a benefit but think the ratio for the 163 should be slighter lower than a good running 154" The best running sled I saw yesterday was a guy I rode with, he has it clutched and regeared to 19 (he also put an attack 20 on it) and it was flat ripping in the deep stuff.

That same guy rode the 154 XP machines with the Powdermax and they seemed to do just as good. Heard thru the rumor-mill that he was not that impressed with the attack 20. Sounds like he just has one of the good clutch setups.

They will pay for it

Summit ® 800R Drive Belts (continued)
Furthermore, dealers are reporting that gearing
changes are helpful on some models.
It is important to know that the 146 inch models are
geared rather high as we intended them to be a long
track Renegade of sorts. If top speed is more desirable
than deep snow or extreme climbing performance your
customers may prefer to leave the gearing alone, but if
they are being used more extremely you may gear
them down by using a 21 tooth top sprocket and a 102
link chain.
The 154 inch model being used in extreme conditions
may benefit from a 19 tooth top sprocket, but you will
loose top speed on flat meadows. A different chain is
not needed.
The 163 inch model already uses a 49 tooth bottom
sprocket so it is geared lower and most likely will not
need change.
If gearing changes are required to meet the customers
expectations you may file a normal warranty claim for a
top sprocket and chain. You will be required to return
the removed parts claimed.
As always, be sure to maintain belt deflection as
instructed in previous What's News editions or the
Operator's Guide.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,
and appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
We sincerely hope that this new information will help
your business and ask you to watch for further
developments.

So how will changing the 154 to a 19 tooth affect top end speed and more importantly track speed when climbing?

Never said the powdermax tracks weren't doing well.... they were doing very well also. Just don't recall him climbing with any other sled but mine and his.....
