Is a 2007 M8 a good sled?

Looking to buy a 2007 M8 to replace my long time faithful 05 M7. Should I do it? Are the motors and diamond drive good that year. Other problems to be aware of? Thank you so much for any advice
 
really a solid sled but with the 10-11 you get a lot more. no mechanical reverse, electronic engine reverse, better track, HO 800 motor, better rails and skid. just put on a good set of grippers skis and rip it.
 
I wouldn't recommend an 07 to anyone.
09-11 are awesome.
2010 will explode the spider if it still has the original clutch.

rocky solid sleds, different motor setup than the M7, look the same, ain't the same. this model needs some heat protection for the throttle cable and oil tank.

Lots of suspension parts around to update if you feel the need, but better than the M7 anyway.

Clutch it, MDS weights. In the mountians ? Needs the lower gearing badly, like a 2010.
 
It is a great sled...super solid. My buddy has an 08 and we dialed it. As for the bad, as stated on this thread, it is down on power. Also, the diamond drive needs to be looked over for bearing failures every 1000 miles. But it has some great potential with a few simple mods. SLP exhaust system, including Y pipe, main pipe and can with SLP intake kit...gets it close to the HP of the 2010 M8 motor. And no controller change needed...just run 91 octane. Really runs crisp everywhere. It rips. If you can find this pipe set, I have a great budget clutch set-up from recommendations on this site...just a primary spring change...lets it rev up more, hits RPMs and backshifts all day...good belt life (800 miles). Stance is wide...set it in all the way. Loose front-rear shock, limiter out, tight rear spring setting. Gripper skis are great for front end handling. Gear down if you have money to burn. Power claw track is a huge improvement...2.25 if on the cheap; a 2.6 bolts right in for more money and this is an amazing track. Lastly, check primary rollers...those go easily. For an older sled, this thing will run all day and you'll be able to get around with the newest sleds. Will you pull it on a climb or out-sidehill them? No, but you can hang and have a blast doing it. I have an 09 M8 pump gas turbo...really reliable...and hangs.
 
Ive owned 3 M's:
2005 M7 153", 2007 M8 141", 2010 M8 153". The 2010 was by far the best. IF you can find one in the 2010-2011 range they are great sleds and with a couple cheap mods they can hang with pretty much anything. 2007 is OK but lacks the refinement of the 2010-11. If you are on a budget and the 07 falls within it, then it is what it is. If you go that route...give the DD & clutches a good go through, and the updated mountain seat, rear tunnel section, and powerclaw track will be good upgrades to look into
 
Thank you all for the great info. I fell into this deal from my Boss for this super nice 1400 mile M8 and a 2006 M7 with same mileage and a nice Triton enclosed trailer for cheap. I couldn't pass it up. I am going to sell the trailer and the M7 and have the M8 for almost nothing. Thanks again
 
good sled....i put STMs on...eliminated reverse servo with a peak lever...BDX oil delete works great on this sled.....my o7 is at 405 pounds..
 
My experience is that these sleds need to be gone through. If it's got adjustable height bars, the steering post will break, you'll need a chrome molly steering post, and it'll crack the bulkhead, so you might as well reinforce that when you do the steering post. the DD will need to have tunnel/axle/DD clearances checked and if it's 10/11 will likely need the axle machined down on a lathe. Get the oil res insert or it'll warp and the cap won't thread on, it'll leak all over the place.
