Iq question?

I know this is on here some where, but can,t find it for my elevation. And some people seam to know their stuff when it comes to iq's on here. I have a pretty good idea on what i need to do, but to get peoples thoughts on it would reassure me for sure. I just bought an 05 iq 440 with a trail head on it, the timing on E, and the large gas tank. Running premix at 40 to 1 some times a little richer. I live in MT and i was told it was jetted for 3000 to 5000 feet around the Spokane Wa area. He said he was mixen at 40 to 1 91 octane fuel and running great! I ride most of the time in the 6000 to 9000 foot range. At 0 degrees to 35+ degrees on avreage. So i know it needs rejetted. Ya some times it is colder but most of that will be at 8500 + feet and yes some times higher, but i would rather be a little rich then lean. Yes i mountain ride it, but not many climbs. Mainly jumps, powder fields, and cornices. I took it out last week with out rejetting and it was doggy for sure. But it went alright. The only think that i wasn't sure on was it would run real strong after i sat for awhile then anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes it would not pull very hard, maybe 7000. Intell i ran in another track or built up speed, then i would hit about 8200. Witch it would do faster if i ran in another track. Also very low idle speed, 500 or under. It runs great in town at 4500 feet and i never run it for long here, just to the trailer and back. So i was thinkn that it was just way to rich, witch it is. But i also have been reading that that also sounds like worn out clutch springs to. Maybe? So any thoughts on this ( main jet, pilot jet, clip postion, air screw, clutch weights, and if it sounds like i need to replace clutch springs or wait tell it is rejetted first?) that would really help me out greatly. Also is the case mod needed for the 05 or is it ok? Thanks for your time Corey.

My set up was pretty spot on for 7 to 10,000
S47 clutch weights
200-210 mains depending on the day
needles dropped all the way down
It should come up on the button fairly quickly (8-10sec)
Stock almond red primary spring (should engage at 5500rpm might have to grind heels of weights and re shim spider in clutch to get that rpm).
Cant remember the piolt jet
or air screws
Secondary was the stock race set up with the 73 helix side
Stock 19 45 gearing.
This was all on 110 octane back in 05 when race fuel was only 3.90 a gallon
Hope this gives you a ballpark idea
Always watch your piston wash and plug color!
These sleds are designed to work on the button for best holeshot, by using the button you build pipe heat and bout and 4-5 hp to help pull the weight on the bottom....it should transition smoothly to 8200rpm.. not 7500 then creep to 8200

thanks

Ya i am hitting 5500 almost every time when starting. Just was real slugish in the middle. Figured just need to jet down. I have not looked yet but pretty sure main is around 260 or so. Just wanted to see what other people would say. Thanks for the info Matt.:)

I too have looked around the site for jetting advice. i have an 06' IQ 440 completely trail converted, except for the main jets. i got a pair of 340s for free but im not sure if that is a correct place to start at. im in Minnesota and elevation is 800 to 1200 ft with temps about 10 to mid 30s. I do know about checking the piston wash and plugs, but just some advice on a starting point would be great.

The race manual has all the jetting charts in it i have it right in front of me 8 to 10 thousand feet main jet should be 210 to 220 depending on temp needle pos on 2. If running mostly at 6 to 8 thousand clutching should use s-45h weights and the almond red spring in the primary sec clutch should be 160\280 spring with a 66/44-46 helix and 19-45 gearing. Should be a good place to start hope it helps!! Jetting may change a little depending which head you are running trail head or race head.
