IQ air intake that works!

Okay, so I have been working on this for a while and have come up with a pretty simple solution! The pictures shown have a K&N filter in them but I have an even better solution that is less expensive.

Consits of:
Welded aluminum mount
Plastic open air cone (same shape as K&N)
Outterwears pre filter
4" hose clamp
Stock foam donut

I have one on my 09 D8 that is quite a bit more modded and one on my 09 700, works very well and and the best part is you don't have to add duct tape and silicon to everything!

What do you think?

somebody needs to make an intake that clamps directly to the tb i still suck in crud from where the TB'S are really no way to seal it up

Nice work!!!

I just completed mine, but with a similar twist. I ordered a RU-2510 K&N that has a 4" ID flange and a 4" alum tube from Summit. Once I got it here I found that the OD of the filter fit PERFECTLY into the ID of the airbox. I just trimmed the bottom of the air intake/dash board piece, timmed down the stock foam donut and put the prefilter on the K&N with the foam mounted at the bottom of the filter to seal it to the intake/dash piece.

Sadly she has sat in my shop waiting for time off work to go test her.

i just took the air horn that is stuck to the shelf off. the one side has the horn the other has a small lip with some tabs, i cut the tabs off with side cutters then i spray adhesive the same side then wrapped slp prefilter material over it and zip tied it tight around the lip and press the material flat and let dry and trimmed the rest. then when you re install it it sandwiches the filter material between the horn and shelf. and the zip tie is above the shelf as well and has no way to drop into the air box if it some how gets loose which is impossible. so any snow gets or sealing foam that comes loose cant get into the air box.

why not buy a Timbersled set up?

The other issue is the box leaks badly. When I did my turbo I had to clean the trottle bodies. They were caked with belt dust. I had even sealed the seam on the airbox. I always was able to see moisture in the airbox even after sealing around the headlight, headlight adjustment knob and every where else I thought it would get in..... Now no problems boost is way better.....

Agreed! I cleaned up the seam around the box with denatured alcohol then sealed it with heat tape. I still have the less than machined fit on the TB to airbox connections, but this will have to do for now.

Agree. I was amazed at how much belt dust/garbage was in 600 mile throttle bodies. How much of this piston scuffing people are seeing is being caused by this? That lower seal is definately an area that I think needs attention.

About $125 less!

I have thought about experimenting with a complete box, however this can get complicated and costly!

The 09+ air box secures directly to the throttle bodies and fits the previous sleds.

I am glad you added that, I had no idea what these guy's were talking about! I don't have the dusting problem because I have 2009's. I didn't realize the 2008's were different.

somebody post pics of the 09 box plz i got about 30mi on a brandnew motor i had some low end runabilty isuses fixed now i thought it might of been a reed, oh it was nice to see my reeds black with belt dust on a brandnew motor.

Lets see if the picture from babbits will upload. Yep, here is the 2009 box.

here is the 2008 unit

The airbox is a 2 piece slide together unit at the throttle bodies... more prone to leaking belt dust into the throttle bodies.

You should see how much crap gets in there when the throttle body boots decide to de laminate. :faint:
