What's the opinions on intake and exhaust for this application? 4 or 5 inch exhaust? Not putting a program with the 6 speed, just want to push more air through the engine.

If it's a 305/555, all you really need is a 4" downpipe from the turbo. For intakes, some like the plastic ones, there is a new Wilson Thrasher that eliminates the grid heater, Banks, and others. Just shy away from the aftermarket lifetime filters. Some convert to the BHAF (Big Honkin' Air Filter) which is a conical filter with a lot more surface area than the stocker. This stuff will help a little but a Smarty will give you more of what you are looking for.

got an 04.5 myself. did a k and n in drop filter, gutted the intake pipe, removed the silencer ring, put a piece of 5 inch exhaust pipe painted black to replace the factory baffle. also did a muffler delete kit and gutted the cat. dropped 50-100 degrees on the egts just cruising. all stock without a boost boost fooler i can hit 1400 on a long pull empty.with my smarty on 30hp mode i have to work to get 1300 on the pyro. mainly cause it does boost fooling, and I can get almost 30 lbs of boost out of it. I also put on a quadzilla recon gauge setup that I got off ebay for less then 100 dollars. all in all I have 250 dollars invested into it and have gauges, exhaust, and a stage 1 intake. my brothers 04 has 5 inch turbo back with no muffler and with an auto the drone is horrible.the 4 inch has way less drone and an awesome sound.

i've always been more for the "true" cold air intakes that are fully inclosed like banks, volant and such that actually suck air from outside of the engine compartment like stock. i know its just personnel preference but i just dont see how the little sheet metal wall on two sides of the filter keeps the heat out. also the K&N doesn't seem to be real popular among alot of the diesel guys cuz it has a pretty loose weave in the filter and it supposedly lets quite a bit of dirt through. most guys i talk to now days are either going to the reusable dry filters or sticking with paper as they supposedly filter the best.

as for exhaust i believe they are all basically the same other than the name(pipe and glasspack style muffler) and if you dont need the name you can usually get a pretty good deal on ebay on a new exhaust. i agree with skidooer1 on the 5" drone, my buddys got an 06 megacab 6-speed with a 5" mbrp system and riding in the back seat you can barely here the people in the front seat talk. as for outside the 5" probably sounds better cuz generally the bigger the pipe the deeper the sound. as far as egt's i dont think theres much difference between a 4" and a 5", hell most 5" are only 5" from about the back of the cab anyways.
