Installing skid plate on M8 question

Hey guys got a question, I picked up the non HD skid plate, and the instructions say to remove the belly pan and the air silencer, is there any real reason to do this other then to make sure you dont drill into anything? I think it should be fine to just tip it over and drill away, I just wont drill real deep. What do you think, did you guys just throw it on or did you take everything apart?

Just be careful drilling and you should be fine. Thats what I did. I think...

put a small deep socket over the drill bit so you cant drill to far and hit something else

im not sure why they would say to remove the belly pan but as for the air box it is only one torx screw in the front of the nose, then the hole thing just pulls out, might save you a headache if you take it out
