Installed new Team Industries secondary

Just finished installing the new secondary on my 121" '03 503. It didn't take a whole lot to get it bolted on. The spacer between the secondary and the frame was 1.3". Had to turn it down to 1.1" for the secondary to line up. This put the shaft out the front of the clutch just far enough to have the desired play. Had to take the stock key and machine the exposed part down to .25" to fit the new secondary. I may just have the secondary machined to fit the stock key. I may need a slightly shorter but wider belt as the secondary is adjusted pretty much as narrow as it gets and there may be a little to much belt deflection. Good news is that it is even with the outside edge of the clutch. Tomorrow at lunch or after work I'll give it a test run. I did run the machine in the shop and the shifting is silky smooth. We'll see.

Took my sled for a test ride tonight. The Team polaris clutch worked flawlessly. All I can say is awesome. It hooks up. Shifts up smooth, shifts down smooth. Those two clutches combined unleased a bunch of power that I didn't realize the little 503 had. Huge improvement over stock. The nose was diving a little more than I remember but I just went through the front forks and they probably need some adjustment. I still need to come up with a shorter wider belt. Anybody know what I might try? I'm using an older polaris xlt belt. Anybody know of a website that list belts in their sizes, lengths and widths?

Thanks in advance,

Brad,
Havn't had the time to double check the springs and weights in the P-85. I'm going to pull both clutches at the end of the week and bring them home for my long track.
On anther note I did some more riding tonight. It was too dark for a long ride so I kept it relatively short. I stiffend up the front forks before I went out and the front doesn't dive quite so bad. I can't say enough about the clutch setup. It really works well. I think that I'm not getting quite the rpms that are available so I'll be working with the weights. Other than that the machine rocks. It is a rocket. My riding went up a notch tonight. I rode it hard instead of it riding me hard. Layed it down a few times but kept it running. Goosed it from the side and let it dig itself out. I'm looking forward to seeing how the clutches work on my 136. Thats it for now.

Thanks again for the western power sports tip J.

Results!

Glad to read your excitement about your findings Chris!

Please, make sure you take the time to post the specs under Things to Know, or one of the clutching threads.

hey Chris, how about an update on how things where working before the season ended?

My team secondary worked real well all season. I never got around to having a new key machined for the jackshaft. It still has a little slop in it. I really don't have anything bad to say about it. I never got around to swaping my other machine to the team secondary either. I have the factory secondary setup pretty well. It does have some corrosion on the bushings so my guess is that in the not to distant future I'll have to swap in my spare team secondary. I installed a tach late in the season and only got about an hour of run time on the sled before the season ended. I can't remember if I needed to do some tweaking to get the primary to engage at a better rpm.

Pics?
