Installed another FIX kit.

Installed my third fix kit today, all three in different sleds. All the sleds were 09 800 Dragons. None had burned down or were broken. On all three we felt it was time. One sled had about 500 miles. What I would consider them pretty hard miles, a lot of WFO climbs. Another had 932 miles on it, most of these miles I would consider pretty easy miles. The third we don't know because it was bought used with around 350 miles and had the FIX put in at about 450 miles. All of the pistons had the usual wear on the intake side and minimal discoloration on the exhaust side. That all being said. For those of you who ride easy and probably think you are going to be OK and not have problems, I would really consider doing something before you have a major breakdown. It appears that no matter what your riding style these things are wearing on the pistons. BTW all three sled are and have been ridden pretty much in Washington state at the 3 to 6000 foot range.

I have a 2010 800 and I am thinking about putting in a set of wiseco pistons every 1000 miles instead of doing the fix kit. I have a PCV with Dynotech maps that I am running in it. I have heard a few comments on here about guys doing this type of thing with good results.

What costs are associated with the Fix?

There are a lot of 800 sleds out there that people will either keep to ride, or that someone might like to purchase. If they could figure in the cost of upgrading the motor that might help them to decide on the sled or not.

I did three fix kit installs myself as well and same results. All three had between 1000-1400 miles and all three were running fine, however, all three had piston damage and one had a 1 inch crack in the cylinder skirt. All three were on borrowed time.......
Not a ton of miles on the kits yet but so far so good. One is a turbo and the other two have heads, SLP pipes, PCV's.

The kits I installed are from Performance Motor Sports out of Ashton Id. The cost was $700 each., that includes the kit, another base gasket, wrist pin bearings, all the O rings plus other rubber gasket and shipping. You can get by a little cheaper if you don't reuse the bearing, O rings and other gaskets. I always figure if you have it apart you may as well replace all the parts. Not worth it to have to tear the engine down again because of an antifreeze leak.
