Inspect your fuel lines from the tank to the shut off switch and from the switch to the pump.
While riding last weekend my sled(03 vertical escape) just stopped. I opend the hood to have a look around and noticed fuel running ender the carbs. Shut the fuel off and pulled the air box out. The line running from the switch to the pump had broke in two and was brittle to the touch.
Being 20 miles from the truck I needed a trail fix. I cut the line from the tank to the switch to run straight to the pump, Its a different size. After slowly streching out the brittle line I was ablle to get it to just fit over the barb on the pump.
Not wanting it to come off on the ride back to the truck, I babied the sled. As we all know the 800 is known for running lean in the mid range. About 8 miles from the truck at 30 MPH the engine locks up. Pulled the plugs and they were white.
So $5 worth of fuel line has now cost me a rebuild.
I just bought the sled last Oct. with a fresh rebuild. The sled had been meticulously taken care of and it looks like the fuel lines were overlooked by more then me.
Hope this helps someone
