SEATTLE -- A 40 year old father was killed in front of his parents and two children Thursday afternoon after driving into the middle of a gunfight.
The shooting happened near the intersection of MLK Jr. Way and East Cherry St. in Seattle.
Following 911 calls about gunshots, Seattle Police Det. Jeff Kappel said officers responded just after 4:30 p.m. and found the victim. Seattle Fire paramedics arrived on the scene and began treating him. Shortly after 5:30 p.m. KING 5 learned that the victim had died at the scene.
SPD said the man was struck in the crossfire as two suspects fired at each other. A preliminary investigation said the victim was driving westbound on East Cherry Street in his white Volkswagen van.
The victim had earlier picked up his parents from the airport and along with his two children were heading out on a weekend vacation.
One suspect is described as a black male, light-skinned, hair in corn rows, no facial hair, late teens to 20s, six feet tall, 170 pounds, wearing a dark hat, red jacket or shirt with gray or dark-colored panels on it, shorts and red shoes.
The only description available for the second suspect is a black male, possibly in his 20s or 30s. Both men were seen running eastbound on Columbia St.
Homicide, Gang and CSI detectives responded to the scene and continue to investigate.
