Injector question

Hello,

I have my machine('11 Pro RMK 800/163") apart for mods & inspection and am curious about the merits of updating from the blue injectors to the yellow...................The sled has accrued 800 miles & was running good last season when it was parked.............

What are the differences between the red, blue, & yellow injectors and is there any benefit to updating???

Also, I see that ECU re-programming is required with the yellow injector update..............If I do upgrade to the yellow I'll perform the installation myself so I was curious if there would be any harm running the machine for a few minutes with the old/blue injector programming, long enough to get it loaded on the truck to take to the dealer???

Thanks in advance,

Glen

Just leave it as is. There is no Benafit from running the different color injectors. The only way you would gain anything is switching to the12 injectors but that means changing your cylinders. And you don't need to bring your whole sled in to get the ecu reprogrammed. You can just bring the ecu in

I have heard of a couple injector issues on '11's but I'm curious if they are/were failing electrically or mechanically? If they are failing mechanically, an injector flow test and ultrasonic cleaning by a company like Dr. Injector might be a worthwhile investment.

I use Dr. Injector in Federal Way, WA. Others have used Witchhunter.

I wouldn't sweat using your original's to load the sled.

Thanks for the reply,

Not that I'd consider changing the cylinders/block but what's the difference between the '11 & '12 injectors(blue, red, yellow or otherwise) - flow rate??? Just curious...............

Thanks for the pointer on taking the ECU in separately............

They had some injector problems in 11 so they switched suppliers in 12

The injector problems we've seen were from the wires rubbing through, just make sure the wires are zip tied off of any metal. You would also have to bring the whole sled in to reflash the ecu. The dealer would need the whole sled because the computer is connected to the ecu through your diagnostic port in the main wiring harness. There is also another plug labelled "ecu power" that they need to power up the ecu in order for the computer to connect to your ecu.

Not absolutely sure, but arent the injectors in the 2012 and 13's Bosch? I dont think you can just change the injectors because of the different bore on the cyl for the different injectors. Consult your dealer befor buying any new injectors.

Injectors

We tested the injectors on the vipec setup last year, the Bosch blue injectors flow roughly 7-10 % more than the yellow dekas. The yellow injecto ecu can be reflashed to run the 2012 program, although the 2012 injectors fit differenty into the cylinders . Call me if you have any questions You can make the 2012 Blue injectors fit the 11 cylinder. Also the injector deadtime is a bit different on the two injectors.
