Injector Colors?

OK, so I pulled my busted a** engine out tonight(lost a rod bearing:mad:) and noticed on the ECM there were a couple of tags stuck to the side. One said SLP......Yellow injector color. The other had a calibration number and some other stuff and it also said yellow injector. The injectors I pulled out of the engine were black. What does this mean? Do I have the wrong injectors? I am the 3rd owner of this sled and have very limited knowledge as to the history so I really don't know what I'm dealing with. Thanks. Sonny

There are 2 different colors of injectors. Both work fine, but they do require a different program in the ECU. But any ECU can be programmed to the given injectors. When programming it one of the questions the program asks is the color of injector.

There are 3 different colors, yellow, blue, and red. They all need to be the same color in the sled and then the ECU is programmed for that color.

Could these be aftermarket injectors, cuz they're black. How do I know what the ECU has been programmed for? The label says yellow but the injectors most certainly are not yellow. Could the programming have been changed but not the label? Nothing on this sled has made sense ever since I bought it so why change now. What should I do with it?

The injectors themselves are not colored. There should be a piece of red, yellow or blue tape on the plastic tubing on the injector harness.

I was told this was more for EPA reasons any ecu will run any injector. Both 975 kits out there don't care on the injector color.

Oh ok, I'll check that tomorrow when I get to the shop. I never even looked at the harness. I thought it refered to the color of the injector body, kinda like high flow injectors for a car, different colors mean different flow rates. What does the color difference mean on these things?

Flow rates. The different colors are matched and sold as sets. The ECU is programmed for the different flow rates.
