information on 503 vs. 600 cog belt set up

i got tired of breaking my 500 cog belt all the time so i went ahed and put the whole BIGGER AND BETTER 600 belt set up on my 503 but that started a new proublum. I couldent get it to stop sliping i actully broke a 600 belt becuz it was slipping. so i figured out the 600 belt is actully longer by a lil bit.. so waht you have to do is notch out the squar in the aluminum that your belt tensioner rides in 3/4 of an inch and then put a 2 in longer metric bolt in your adjuster.. and then you are set to go. and i went ahed and tightend up the slip clutch cog gear all the way seems as how theirs no way to break this big belt with the lil 503 lol so in conclusin if you have a 503 hawk and you want to make that part of it unbreakable just do that.:)
 
I don't believe that I've ever even had the that side slip. Anybody else ever break a the cogs or belts? Tony, didn't you say you wore a cog out or something?

Yes .. Like I have stated The belts do break. I know alot of riders have never had a problem with the belt drive. I broke Two of the big belts and my buddy rides a 04 600 HO 136" and he also broke his belt. Now some of that is our fault we tightend up the "tls" so it would not slip in the big vertical climbs and that does not work well when jumping and landing on the gas. Others have stated that those belts are rated to 1,000 hp. ie a Blower belt That is not correct a super charger on a top fuel car takes around 300 hp at 8,000 rpm to spin and that is on a consistent pull. Cjgodden and I both converted to a chain drive that another friend of ours built. We are now thinking about making it a KIT form for others to install. This has been the best Mod I have done and I can now change gearing and we have NOT had one issue sense we changed over. The hardest part was the top shaft and we made a new out of 4130 chrome Molly. Now we also have two others that ride and they love there belt drive but they are considering swapping over for the advantage of gearing.
