I'm gonna buy a Duramax....any recommendations/tips?

QuadsWest, You will love the DMAX!! I would recommend if you are going to buy a few years used truck..... make sure its the older exhaust system not the new circulating setup... Power is great but mileage is terrible & there is nothing you can do to change it with chips, intake, or exhaust from particulate back... You cant go wrong with the 05/06!!! My 05 was Awesome, kinda miss it compared to my 08 when I'm at the fuel pump..... Not many issues with the 06, pretty consistant DMAX all around... there are some that had issues just like any machine but nothing major... Good Luck!!!! I still have a few aftermarket accessories from my 05 if you are interested...(Hood Shield, Window Visors, OEM intake)
The only difference between the LBZ and LLY is the tune and the air filter. I have an '06 LLY and love it.
A great truck and a fantastic engine. If would like PM me with the VIN and I will check it on GM's website and run carfax on it for you.
I second the LBZ. I love my 06 DMax. Great truck. Last of the good diesels w/o the DPF. I've been to DuramaxForum and there are some good mods depending on what you want to spend. One thing to look into is the EGR block plate w/ finger stick. I'm looking at an exhaust and programmer. Love the truck.

I have a 2009 duramax and i love this truck i had a 07 powerstroke before this truck and i had huge injector problems. my new duramax will flat out run that POS into the ground. I pull alot with this duramax and it hasnt skipped a beat you will love the duramax my brother has an 06 and his also runs strong the only prob he has had was the 4wd broke one time. but other thabn that we are bolth verry happy with out DURAMAX DIESELS

I have always been a gas guy, and I bought an 06 LBZ Duramax crew 6 months ago, and I LOVE it!! No more getting a run at the hill when pulling my 4 place, it doesnt even sound like a diesel, and my bud AJ with a 7.3 ford doesnt have a couple cold ones down while he's waiting for me to show up on a long roadtrip. 2 thumbs up on the Duramax!!

Well, you asked for suggestions, so I'll give you mine.
GM makes a great riding truck as long as you keep it stock height (I don't like them that short)
GM makes my favorite interior ergonomics.
It stops there.
I had an 04 Duramax in a crew cab short box truck, and I hated that thing! I was coming from 2 dodges, and made the change when i got hitched (larger cab, and the mega was too much $$)
A year and a half later, and LOTS of money in tuners and other hassle trying to get it to make a little power, and I finally went back to the Cummins powered Dodge.
If you're convinced, I sure hope you have better fortunes than we had with ours.

Do it, you wont regret it... Definitly agree with those mentioning the LBZ selection if possible, last of the "dirty" diesels... Not that there is anything wrong with the new ones, they are just more difficult to defeat...
Since your new to diesels as well, do yourself a favor and run sometype of anti gel everytime you fuel up. I buy a 12.50 gal of Power Service(white bottle) thats good for up to 250 gals. I never let my tank get much below 1/2 or 13-15 gallons a fillup
I get 5 fillups to a gallon of Anti-gel no matter what. Yea its certainly overkill, but ive never been froze up on the side ofthe rd trying to change a FF that's not in the most convient of locations...
