If you want both a hand brake and foot brake

Watched a riding bud use this part of the year last year and just installed one on my kit this year. I ran the recluce insert last year but had to modify a different foot master to make it work because they don't make one for a Kawy. Nine milers aluminum shuttle block will work on any bike and can be kept when you trade up. Takes just a little extra stroke when switching from hand to foot, but not enough to notice. This also comes with EVERYTHING,hoses,bolts,bracket. Hope this helps some of you...
 
Price?

What does this setup run for price? I don't feel like I have to have a hand brake, but tried my friend's and it was nice to have when the need arises. However I've ridden the years without one and I'm not going to break the bank for one. Hope it's reasonable.
 
Pix of dual brake kit

This kit is a real plus for the MH '11-'13 riders because it includes a brake line, using the front brake master cylinder (this seems to be the MC of choice). A $85 upgrade from TS (included in the '14 MH kits)
Full instructions and mounting hardware included.
Insulation is straight forward but bleeding can be troublesome.
Cost is a bit over $200.

Loon lake Mariana is selling these for 170 bucks. If I remember right I paid 120 for the recluse insert last year and had to find a brake master cyl. they made the incert for ( didn't make one for kx) and buy the longer brake line, make mount to fit.... This set up is KISS set up...keep it simple stupid.

wouldn't a a longer brake line hooked up from the front brake master to the rear master with a double banjo bolt work, be cheaper and easier to bleed?
I could be wrong?
 
No, if you operate one the fluid will just bleed back through the opposite master cylinder.
 
Here is my setup to use both hand and foot brake. I made a new bracket to hold the two calipers on the "outer" side then basically just using the two original 3/8" bolts to hold one side of each caliper and a bolt that threads into the other end of the caliper through the new bracket. Looks clean and sturdy to me so hopefully it works good this winter. Need to do another conversion and get another blue caliper so they match! :laser:

Thinking about making more for others, but it would require tapping one side of each caliper.

Double braking

I like the double calliper but there is a much simpler solution. Just use the rekluse left hand rear brake setup they use on dirt bikes. It's a brake cable that goes down to the foot master cylinder and connects to it with a check valve that prevents fluid from going up to the hand brake master cylinder when you step on the foot brake. This allows you to use both a foot and/or hand brake to run the rear brake calliper. Easy leash

Have one but haven't installed it yet. Might this winter.
 
Very professional looking set up.
If you sell these to others it would be helpful to include the drill and tap as an option to save the time and hassle of sourcing them separately.
The bracket I made (see my posts with photos) does not require that the calipers be drilled and tapped but requires a hole to be drilled in the existing mounting bracket.
If you have access to a welder no bolt holes are required and an equally attractive installation is achieved.
The ideal solution is for Timbersled to make the caliper mounting bracket with 4 holes to accommodate a second caliper on all new kits. I asked Allen at Timbersled to do this last year. He thought it was a good idea but not a priority compared with developing the new ski.
