If you have a analogue beacon, check it!

So i recently finished a avalanche course, and we did a test on my pieps analgue beacon, and it was giving out a false reading!. when digital beacons searched for it they all came up with different location, somewhat near by. So i tossed it, but anyone using one like this check it, dont want to get in a situation where reading wring could be life.

Good post cmantle...actually, we should check them all, digital or analogue, every time we ride. Doesn't take much for the buddies to all check the signals before heading up the trail...

Just in case.......Don't forget...on analog beacons.... it's not a "straight to the source" signal. There is a radio track that you have to follow and it won't be in a straight line to the body.

Ditto.

On my SOS it kind of shows the way things work. It basically goes out in a elipictal pattern from the source and to find it you will need to work your way around.

I believe that analogue beacons can be recalibrated. I read that they can stray from the frrequency over time.

I thought someone told me this has to do with the degredation of the crystal used in the device that generates the frequency. I'm not not sure how long it takes before needing this recalibration...
