This is an email I sent out today. If you enjoy riding, Vail, Flattops, Fourmile, Marion, Basalt Mnt, Aspen Mnt or any other place in the White River Forest please be aware of this proposal and the groups behind it.

Hello Folks,
I know this has been brought up before but I think these guys are really starting to gain steam on their wilderness proposals for the White River National Forest. I believe CSA and the local clubs have been aware of the "Hidden Gems Wilderness" http://www.whiteriverwild.org/p-white-river-wild-1.html movement for some time. By itself I didn't think it had much chance of success. Now though I see that the Wilderness Work shop is really throwing their full weight behind the proposal. I am seeing this proposal showing up in the local papers more and more. It is defiantly gaining steam. For those who don't know who the Wilderness Work Shop http://www.wildernessworkshop.org/index.html http://www.wildernessworkshop.org/index.htmlis, they are far left wing local environmental group that is local to Carbondale. For their size they have an amazing amount of political power and the latest election has made them even stronger. They have a ton of money from all the donations they get from the Aspen Colorado crowd. They are defiantly a force.

I think most of us felt that this was a fairly far fetched plan with little to no chance of happening. I know I did anyways. I think though now with the current political climate and latest election this thing defaintly deserves careful watching from all motorized groups. I think this new Wilderness Proposal is on the verge of being very real. Please foward this on to anyone you know who stands to loose from the large amount of wilderness being proposed in this plan. Thank you.

Sean Martin

Im with ya. There is even a meeting at the Eagle Forest Service office on this very issue which I will be attending. The fellas who ride the west end of the Flattops out of Sweetwater will try and raise a stink. We all need to get out and voice our opinions.

Just signed up on their info page,We will see what they send me to save the planet. As I've seen on a bumper sticker "HUCK ***GERS!!!"

The money and power of a small group can change everything for the rest of us.Sign up for their info and see what they want to do to us.
Any mechanized use in wilderness areas is outlawed, this includes bicycles.

Last week I received a DVD from the FS of the Draft EIS supplement to the travel Mgmnt plan for the WRNF. It outlines several travel management alternatives for the WRNF. I don't live there but I commented to the FS last year and they sent me the latest plan. There were lots of comments from concerned motorists regarding the Aspen area. Shoot me your Addy and I'll send you a copy if you want to have a look at their plans.

We will be taking a couple club members from the Holy Cross Powder Hounds down to Grand Junction to meet with CSA on this. We need more people to show that it matters. The tree huggers have big numbers and throw big money. Hopefully we will get through the liberal period that the state is in. I'm not knocking any of the Democrats, but traditionally, they work with the tree huggers on closing down terriotory for motorized vehciles.

what i dont understand is why we are shutting down areas for snowmobiles, but allowing the oil and gas companies to drill. that has a much bigger impact on the land than ridding on snow.

Flattoppers snowmobile club is going to have a meeting in early December regarding the travel management plan for the White River National Forest with the CSA. We are hoping for a good turn out. The maps for the proposed changes will be on hand to view the changes. I think that the comment period has been extended to January 6, 2009. This is really going to effect a lot of people who enjoy using the White River summer and winter. It sounds like you want to be specific about areas that are being changed and why you think it should be left as it is. So please lets make a stand on this. I will let you know when the date is confirmed for the meeting and time and place.:D
