If I bought a sled at the puyallup show....

I am a Canadian who is thinking about going to the Puywallup show on Oct 19 and 20th and picking up a used 13 sled. My question is how can I speed up the 72 hour wait time at the border for the title? Do I get the owner to meet me on the Canadian side or if I am in possession of the title and sled can I speed up the process at the border, any input or advise would be greatly appreciated.

If you know for sure, the only way is to fax all required info to the proper boarder crossing well in advance....I have imported two sleds my self and I believe that is the only way to speed up things.
BC.

Like above you can't really speed up the wait time. If you were not going to register the sled you could have them meet you on the Canada side and just do the transaction there. I have also heard of people taking a sled down and selling it and coming back with another one and border services not catching on that it's a different sled.

I got quizzed really hard about my sleds this year when I was legitimately just transporting them through Canada to AK. Like the BP agent asked me the same questions about them 4-5 times!
If I was selling the sled you buy I would not be comfortable driving it across the border under the auspices of travel through Canada (no riding yet, so not a good excuse) and then driving back an hour later empty.

That "advice" really depends on your tolerance for fraud, tax evasion and other federal crimes. It sounds like no big deal, but if you get caught pulling that, you'd be f'd.

Go through the process, drop the sled in storage in Bellingham while you wait to 72 hrs out, if you get caught committing fraud, it will vastly negate any benefit you might get. Likewise, I think that once do all the math and realize that you have no warrantee, you're probably a lot better off buying a sled in Canada. What I've seen at Puyallup in previous years didn't have any cost benefit to what is available locally.

The sooner you can get the paperwork to the border the better. I've imported stuff without the 72 hour period being enforced before, it depends on the agent.

Cool the fraud thing is not an option, I will do it by the book but I was hoping not to wait for 3 extra days down there. I will be looking at many machines so who knows what I will end up with therefore to prepare early wont happen but I do like the storage option at the border and pick it up once the paperwork clears, might shave a day off or so. I am only looking at this show because for some reason people up here think there sleds are worth $1000 bucks less than new with 1500 kms on it. I have been looking for a couple of months and I know it is early but I want a deal or I will ride the ol crate another year!

You got that right, 2010 M8s are going for $7-8200 around here, the ads for one year old sleds with over 1000km look crazy, they basicly look like the price hasnt changed, oh and that gas rack and sticker you added on your sled added $1000 to the price.

You might want to contact Woody at Mt Baker Motorsports in Bellingham. He is super helpful in all our dealings and I bet he would help you with this.
