Ideas for fire pan that doesn't sink in snow?

Tired of making a fire in the snow and watching it sink out of sight in the melting snow. My best idea is to use a "disc blade" from a farm implement, with some support on the outside to keep it from sinking with the heat. I want to burn firewood, 2x4 ends, etc. Nothing to large since I want to carry it on my folding pull sled and use it on Fun Runs. Any ideas and pictures would be great.

take your disc, weld 4 small peices of tubing to it, to hold small 6-18" rods with a 6" plate welded on the bottom, when you set it up the 6" plates will support it on the snow and keep the body from heating up and melting the snow..with the legs removable it will be easier to pack.......

if you just make the fire a tad bigger, the ground acts like a nice base for it...

aahahha.. but 4 small little legs would be ideal to hold the thing up some ot keep it from getting as much heat down to the base.

try making a bed of large branches or wood under your fire, before you start it, that keeps a small to medium fire above the snow for quite a while

Cast Iron Skillet

While I was in Cabela's today I noticed cast iron skillets in 16" and 20" diameter with detachable handles. That may be the answer for me. Long life and small size. Another option I just thought of is the top or bottom of a propane grill.
