Ideas for engine running hot

I thought I would ask the group for some advice to avoid an overheat. I have a 2018 Pro RMK 800 and the engine temperature bounces from 109 to 165 depending on snow conditions and speed. I have ice scratchers.

Any idea to maintain temperature?
Evans Coolant?
More airflow?
Flap has holes? Does it make sense to get a different flap?

Appreciate your advice.

3” I presume.
Ant type of added cooler is the best option. From tunnel top to permanent add on.
Evans will not work unless they have changed the formula in the last few years. I tried it. It would gel at low temps. I still have 2 gal. If you want to try it.

I've heard that about Evans. I guess I'm looking for a simple solution.

It is the 2.6 actually. Trails are icy and I've been riding slow speeds with family. Temperature is all over the map - from good 110 to bad 165.

Just picked it up last week, so wondering if there is air in the coolant.

Thanks again.

I’ve been i your shoes. My fix was to add the mntek auxiliary cooler, after trying t-stay bypass, longer flaps, etc. In short, the only “fix” is more heat exchanger

It does take a 20-25 MPH whip to get the snow to the tunnel ..
The 3" Snow Flap will help but you need to keep some speed up !!

The 18+ has way improved cooling . If your hitting 165 your going to need a trail type sled . SKS will not help either .

I have seen guys on here with Ski, Spring and cable scratchers on the same machine . Seems excessive but some guys ride 10-20 miles of Ice

Just try to go a bit faster with the family. 40+ mph will keep it cool. Otherwise, don't sweat it. Temps to 165 won't hurt a thing. When you start pushing over 200, then it's time to shut down and let'er cool off. The engine will eventually go into a limp mode to protect itself, but that's at like 210 or so.

VP racing fuels makes a product called cool down its a coolant performance improver. hard to see it fixing the problem but I cant see it doing anything but helping. I have hade it in my sled for years and never seen it jell. it also states that it is partially good for preventing corrosion, erosion, and electrolysis on aluminum!
Home
News
VP RACING FUELS INTRODUCES NEW, IMPROVED COOL DOWN™

VP RACING FUELS INTRODUCES NEW, IMPROVED COOL DOWN™

Coolant Enhancer the Newest Addition to VP Madditive® Line
SAN ANTONIO, TX (May 26, 2016) VP Racing Fuels today introduced a new, improved formula for VP Cool Down™, its popular coolant performance improver for high-performance radiator systems. Now included in VP’s portfolio of VP Madditive® performance chemicals, Cool Down decreases cylinder head temperatures up to 50°F!
“Cool Down increases coolant flow for better heat transfer while lubricating all the vital components without the crystallization you find with other coolant additives,” said Bruce Hendel, Director of Sales-Consumer Products. “It won’t harm radiators or water pumps and it’s approved by most race sanctioning bodies.
“Cool Down is safe for all radiator systems. It’s ideal for racing, street, RV and tow vehicle applications, and like all VP’s products it’s formulated by the Mad Scientist with the same leading technology and passion for performance that we bring to our race fuels.”
One 16 oz. bottle of Cool Down treats cooling systems of 12-20 quarts. For systems over 20 quarts, one ounce of Cool Down is required for each additional quart. For straight water applications, an additional 50% more Cool Down is recommended while diesel applications require twice the normal amount. Treatments last for one year or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Maybe not the advice you are looking for but an onion bag(big nylon mesh bag onions are shipped in) filled with snow and ice bungied to your tunnel will get you a long way down the trail. Kind of a hassle but these sleds run cool once you get off trail it’s a shame to have to “fix” them just for the road ride. Once you get to the goods dump any snow remaining and stuff the bag and bungies into you tunnel bag and it’s there for the ride home.
Should be able to get some bags from the produce department or feed store.

Just an FYI from the 2018 RMK/Pro-RMK/SKS/Assault owner's manual:

With the standard gauge: The "over-temp indicator" will illuminate when the engine is over heating. Take action to cool the engine. The indicator will flash when engine temps reach critical levels. Shut the engine off immediately.

With the PIDD, The HOT lamp will:

Illuminate: Idle @ 201*F & WOT @ 185*F

Flashes & shuts the engine off: Idle @ 215.6*F & WOT @ 201*F
