Idaho City

Anyone know how Idaho City is for snow? We just got my son a mtn sled and we want to get him some saddle time. I mostly ride West/McCall and don't really know the area, so any advice would be great.

Thanks!

The first mile up from the parking lot is pretty thin, (we have actually been hauling snow down with the snowcat to cover the dirt spots), ok snow depth around Freeman and Wilson Peaks, I plan to groom it again tomorrow nite but we really need some more snow.

Hi! Anything new? We are thinking about riding Sunday......

Some new snow now...I was up there last week at Mores Creek Summit, and if you looked you could find some really good snow to ride in. Still have to be careful, as it's not terribly deep. Granite Creek was bare down lower, but with the new snow you might be able to hit the road now. I'd go higher. Lot's of fun up there.

Went up Mores Creek yesterday and had a blast. Very deep, very new snow. It was raining in Idaho City on the way up but snowing at the top. Even got hailed on a little bit. Despite the stormy conditions, the snow was fantastic and we had a great, albeit short, ride. The only two drawbacks were that the road hadn't been groomed (for good reason) and we rode past a pretty long avalanche that had been triggered earlier, but other than that it was great.

It was a great day Sunday other than the Cowboys that think they know how to drive and park!! OMG what a mess! gald i stayed awayfrom the upper lot. but yes had a good 24 inches of fluff.

Mores Creek Summit

I have to admit that Sunday when I was up there it was a Zoo
I have been in meetings with the Forest Service, Parks and Rec., County Commissioners about the expansion of the lot, and the possibility of one exit in and one out, and was told that ITD would not allow that, So people continue to be afraid of getting trapped in there so they try to park so that they won't be blocked in hence the mess. Actually there has been some improvement's (rest room facility, adding fill to flatten the lot) Now if someone would VOLUNTEER to get up to the lot early on the weekends and control how the parking proceeds we would all be better off.

Parking?

Why don't they make another lot across the road flatten it out and make another?? I just get pissed because we pay for it and others don't that use it and chaps my a$$ that we can't park right unless we leave at 5 in the morning to dictate it! Kinda rediculious! I won't have to worry to much now that the snow is good ill ride where the rest of boise isn't but common getting pretty stupid!! We pay they don't so figure it out!!!

Saturday there were peeps in the pulloff area just below the summit too. The snow was so wet that people were getting stuck in the parking lot on flat ground.

You can easily fit two rows of rigs behind the bathroom and encourage the skiers to park on the eastern side and get everyone in there if you do it right. I wonder if a sign could be made showing the approximate way it should be done could be made and posted.

The other problem is that there isn't enough snow down low to use the granite creek lot, which makes the upper lot the only choice unless you're going to whoop 'em up. If there was a lower lot closer to I.C. and I could get to the top I'd park there, but the lack of snow is killing me. A few extra miles of road riding doesn't bother me nearly as much as the stupidity that I have witnessed in that lot. Probably take less time than it does to drive it too.

I like Martin's idea...what are the chances of clearing the area right across from the lot and make a second one? Have the skier's park on that side and leave the south side for snowmobilers?
