Ice scratcher recommendations?

I am looking for recommendations on whether ice scratchers are needed and if so, what would work best on a 2017 RAW Timbersled? Since there's no sled cooling going on within the tunnel, how important is this? For those of you who have been riding for years, are you experiencing increased hyfax wear if you haven't been using them?

Thank you!

Brandon

those conditions

some years in the spring you will need them. Most don't use them but I see lots of hyfax on tracks clips around used snow bikes.

That being said, I have broken all the typical wire spring scratcher's I have mounted. Before spring I will make some kind of cable setup for the ski.

even a short way on hard pack/groomed snow in the spring will melt or wear your sliders (hyfax)... I've got cable scratchers (reversible... haha) from duraflex... they're short so you can hook them back up almost anywhere... some models are too long, so watch for mounting options..

May I ask why one suffices on the solo Duraflex? The snow enters through the holes in the track? Do you get build up on the engine skid plate and feet?

Scratchers don't build up any unwanted snow that I've noticed. On a dry bike up the trail it shoots enough snow to keep everything happy down there. I wouldn't worry about it if it did though. Bike looks like a big snowball with a blue fender anyways if it's a decent day!

Idk why only one scratcher works. If I had 2 I would have likely put both on but now it's my lightweight scratcher mod using only one.
Come to think of it though. I've ruined a scratcher on a sled before and rode it in hardpack with just one and it seemed to work fine too

snow scratcher

If you not too sensitive about drilling a couple holes in your ski this works better than any manufactured scratcher I have seen. I have been doing this since the 80"s on my sleds.
Easy to put on, take off and store. Holes are drilled at a 45 degree angle and I bend the bolts about 20 degrees - they will bend on their own if left straight.
One bolt in the center works OK but not as good as the 2 bolts.
You can fill the holes with peetex? for snow skies when you sell
The bolts are 6 in 5/16" carriage bolts.
