Ice scratcher question

In the down position how far below the track should the tip sit? With my 2" paddle the tip sits just above the paddle by about a 1/4". Is this going to be enough to allow the scratcher to do its job?

To adjust my scatchers, I tip my sled on its side and make sure they are around and 1" lower then my paddles. This way I know they are into the snow or ice and keeping the coolers coated. Just dont back up or you will be buying new ones :face-icon-small-sho

So I called RSI and they said that my tip only has to come to the belt and not to the end of the paddle. In theory I figured it would need to be at or below paddle to do its job but they said no and the paddle will dig in the snow enough. But if its icy it won't be digging in? I'll give it a shot to how I have them on now and see if their right.

I think your 'theory' is correct. They need to be down on the floor and putting a few pounds of pressure down as well because on hardpack your track won't dig in at all.

That said, I use cable scratchers and leave them down year 'round. I can back up on 'em, load 'em in the trailer, etc and never worry about them again. I was always bending and breaking the other kind.

Did you see the new Ski Doo ones for 2014? They mount on the tunnel and look like excellent 18" spears if you fall off. Ouch!
