I've had a couple people asking me how I liked the nitrous system I recently installed. We've had some pretty crappy snow around here lately so I was holding back any info until I put some rides in and some decent button time.
The kit, as a whole, is pretty sweet. The power is instant, the Gen4 dumps extra fuel in during the shot to keep the bike in perfect AFR, and so far there have been no hiccups with bottle temps that have prevented me from using the shot. I'm sure there will be colder days and riding conditions in the future, but so far even with the bottle covered in ice and snow the shot is stout and impressive. The mounting system by Ice Age held up down an extremely whooped out icy road and near full speed without a hitch.
My original impression of what nitrous would be used for has somewhat changed. In my mind I figured nitrous would help me tackle some climbs that normally couldn't be pulled at steeper angles on the bike... it really doesn't seem like that is the case. What the shot seems to help me out with the most are steep tight route corrections and hard motor load situations (like casing the snow and having the motor fall from the load). The button gives you dramatic rev power whenever you press it above about 6,000rpm in about 1 second. Miss that uphill line? Pass the bottom of the terrain feature you missed, press the button, rev up the motor and turn uphill... your motor won't bog from the load. It's sweet. I also found that pressing the button at the base of a big climb also keeps the revs up at that moment you compress into the snow... no more power loss when starting a big ascent. I found myself pressing it a lot for 1-2 seconds when boondocking just because I like keeping my speed up in the powder.
I'm going to need more rides to really dial in "nitrous moments" and at this point I'm still finding it's perfect place in the ride. Ice Age isn't making any additional kits at the moment until everything is really dialed in. I have some minor design changes I would like to see made but all in all I think the kit is a huge plus. I'm very impressed how it works with the Dobeck fuel controller. I figured at the start of the shot the AFR would walk towards lean before being corrected but it doesn't hardly twitch lean at all.... instant additional fuel delivery on the shot. Good stuff!
FYI - the picture of the intake is not how I finally mounted the nitrous line. I wanted to show that so people could see the thickness of the line. I ended up coming in from the right side of that picture with the nitrous line pointed directly at the throttle body for maximum hit
