I went to the Snow-Hawk factory today

can someone explain to me why the snow hawk went up in price to $20,000???? i don't get that. i thought their whole goal would be to sell more units, and have economies of scale bring the price down.

i like hawks, i don't want to see them go....

They're not making any production in '09. They're "custom" built one at a time, that explains the price tag...
Even though the '08 production was all sold out in october of '07 apparently...

Snow-Hawks are still too much hassle for what money they're making with, even at 15 grand last year. Way better (moneywise) for ADB to sell explorer kits. I can hardly see a motor burning on an Explorer kit...

Besides, Explorer kits are VERY cheap & simple to build (couple cut out alu plates done by a water jet cutter locally, bushings/spacers, fasteners, a track, some sprockets & the snow-hawk ski) as opposed to a complete awesome turn-key snow machine with an engine & all other shiat & problems to give warranty on.

I think it would be a whole different approach if they wouldn't have to give a warranty on them, just like a brand new out of the box motocross. Maybe someone should propose them.

Won't be me. I'd just suggest we gather all our knowledge together and build a better one. We already have a very good bas to start on... Together on this forum, we're aware of all the problems and we could redesign that thing covering all flaws. The only concern I have are the body parts, the rest is no problem to retro-engeneer & build. Being an ex-bicycle frame builder, I'd start with a tubular frame... but that won't assure we won't be more expensive than 20K... !

Wathever, The Snow-Hawk is the most awesome machine i've ridden, I'm just freakin happy I got my hands on the last 144 of the '08 production.

ok boys! who wants to start building custom machines! lets start our own company! how much do ya think we would have to come up with? i could scrap togather $10k our slogan could be, built for riders! by riders! lol
i have some great ideas. there "mind blowing"

we should pool our cash to get a good design then protoype done! then look for 1 good investor. perferbley some who rides a 1 ski!

im not looking for mass production! i just think we could build a way better machine for 20k ie: better engine, lots of carbon fiber and titanium

what you guys think?

whell you could add mine to that too! snaped my driver shaft! bottom sprocket cranked agenst my frame, and i think i killed my cog belt. this happend 20 min into my ride on the trails!!!! man i was so stoked to go and ride today!

I got a day on a fan a few years back when the Cooke City Exxon rented them...absolutely had a ball and got rid of years of low back pain. Stayed pain free for about 4 days til tightening up on long ride home. Just a blast riding with all sleds in party. Nothing stopped it.

But because all pals road sleds and I normally had NW cement on MT Baker to ride...never got one. But always thought about hacking an old Yamaha Phazer and use bike forks...tall seat...you get the picture...

Take a decent sled, fab forks and single ski and high seat. I think we have a snow bike! Goose

but 20k? anyone who knows anything would know that they wouldn't be able to move product like that. i thought they were like 11,000 a few years ago? they should streamline the production and outsource it to mexico or india to bring the price down.

they don't want to sell them period!

Both!

But just because their exact stratagy did not work, others had different ideas just not enough money to purswade the blockheads.

Use your Trail Rider magazine ties to convince them to come to Hawk Fest, that type of exposure could catch the eye of the right stuff.

Like I've PM'd you call me about this, lots to declare.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

they said that? or is that our speculation based on someones trip to an empty factory?

my speculation has nothing to do with someone elses trip to an empty factory, it is based on the silly $20,000 price tag! they must have known sales would halt. I'm just sad that it has turned out like it did. feel like it is the coolest machine I've ever ridden and would love to see the sport progress into a larger market. wish all my buddies had one. riding with 20 hawks every weekend.......perfect!!!

ohhhhhh lol. that's what u wanted me to call u about? i thought u were trying to sell me a used hawk. all you wrote was "call me!" then a phone number. i wouldn't suggest i have any pull over there. i wrote a few free lance articles but i don't know anyone personally.

I would suggest, however, calling all of the motorcycle magazines. alert the media. why i didn't see a snowhawk (or the 2moto or explorer) in ANY of the motorcycle magazines since they're creation just baffles me out right.
