I took the leap also - with pics

I'm jumping into the snowbike scene head first. After a five minute ride on a 2-moto bike last winter the M-7 was for sale.

I've been planning and saving up for the snow bike all summer. Picked up a new left-over RMZ 450, and ordered the 2-moto kit from Jake Barker this fall. Jake delivered and help install the kit last week, so I thought I'd share some pics of the new toy with everyone.

Installation was pretty straight forward, it took us well over 2 hours though. Probably because we didn't spend much time reading the directions. Props to 2-moto, the kit appears to be built very well, and EVERYTHING you need is provided.

Any snowbikers in North Idaho? I think I'm going to be bored with my sled buddies.

Congrads on getting a bike kit.. You will have a blast, but your right, you will need some other single skis to ride with.. Ck out Hawkfest if you want to touch bases with other like minded riders..www.snowhawkadventure.com.. Lots of single skis there both bikes and Hawks.. I think someone else is also trying to get something else going in Colarado..

lets ride!

i just got a 650 berg and 2moto kit (after selling my M8) im looking for guys to ride with (im in SE wa) i have some buddies in bozeman with 2motos so i will probably be heading that way (through N id) on my way to BZ. lemme know if you wanna ride. -Levi

fuel

what are you gonna do for extra fuel? do you think that 2.5 on the swingarm will be enough? (the rm stock tank is tiny isnt it?) one of my buddies wants to do a turbo RM but fuel range is is concern, have you seen an oversize tank available yet?

Where do you do most of your riding Leeee? I'd be game for getting together for a ride somewhere.

For fuel, I think that the extra 2.5 gallons should be fine. On a sled we usually only put 30-40 miles on a a day. The RMZ will go about 60 miles of trail riding in a day on the 1.6 gal tank, so I'm thinking with the 4 gallons you should be able to get 60+ miles in the snow, which is a pretty long day. If not, the sled guys that I ride with always carry extra, and have offered to carry some extra for me also. But, I do know a guy who has an oversize (plastic) tank on his, I think IMS makes it.

I'm more worried about being cold. Thought about modifying a skid plate to provide some wind / snow block for my feet. I already have handwarmers, some over-priced klim gloves, and burton snowboarding boots and pants.

What does everyone one else do to stay warm?

warm hands

I got me some Gerbing battery operated gloves made for snowmobiling. 200.00

Go play in the tight trees and your sled buddies will be lost unless they ride like Chris Burandt!

I think your going to want both.. the bigger tank and more on the back.. snowbikes eat the fuel.. at least thats my experience.. probably depends on where and how you ride..I know we killed a stock rmz tank in about an hour or so..but thats riding Baker....

fuel

on my berg i think im gonna run the 4 gal tank, one of my buddies strapped a low pro 5gal on the swingarm, you just want to pour it in your bike asap, i know when i had my sled there were some 80-100 mile days when you could burn through a tank and most of a 5 can. im hoping the berg will use half the fuel of my M8 though, i guess we'll see.

Curious what you did for a handwarmer on the twist side. My wires break at the end of the season .

The handwarmers I bought are motorcycle specific, and I'm told have a heavier guage of wire. The clutch side is a warmer pad also.

I thought about gluing or wiring the wire to the side of the grip so that there is no movement in the wires until they're an inch or so away from were they connect to the heating pad. But, this would require a large amout of free play in the wire and I had some concerns about catching branches with it.

You guys are making me a little nervous about fuel. The injected RMZ does seem pretty thirsty even compared to the 07 that I had. Time will tell I guess, for now I'm just going to rely on my sled buddies to carry extra for me.

Stick with your opening statement.

I think I'm going to be bored with my sled buddies.

Buy the biggest aftermarket tank you can get, along with your kit mounted can you should have more then enough juice to wear you out. Entice others to get into your new sport, join the ones who allready have.

Cutting the cord may seem harsh, but it beats the animosity that becomes the instant your being waited on for hitting that, or going back in there.
You don't want to have to follow the Twoski crowd endlessly looking for untouched hills just so you can be refueled.

cold and out of gas?

As long as you stay moving you don't get cold @ all. My buddy was riding w/ sorels and didn't like the feel. Too big and bulky he felt. He's a baby when it comes to the cold but he still decided to try his riding boots. He loved it. He also lost a couple of layers up top. The bike is so fun to ride, getting cold really isn't an issue. As far as fuel goes, it goes quick. Bike eats it up. Look into a Clarke fuel tank if your worried about running dry. I rode all last weekend and was glad we brought the extra petro. I have a wr 450 w/ a big bore kit on it.
