I sold my DOO!!

M

So I finaly sold my Doo. I had a chance to ride a buddies new HCR and the M chassis is way more nimble than my XP chassis. I was surprised at the night and day difference and honestly the cat feels about 100 LBS lighter to throw around than the XP did, in comparison the XP handled like a tank!! This is not to say that I didn't enjoy or couldn't ride my Doo or that it wasn't a quality machine, but I felt more at home on the M.

So here I am, I've gotten into a nice new left over 2009 M8 162 Sno Pro. Any areas of concern with these cats? How is belt life on these machines or is it hit and miss? My Doo had 1600 KM and still on the original belt. I had clutched it and geared it down, no vents or anything but worked great. How is the gearing out of the box, decent? Anybody know the actual gear ratio of the M8 162? I live out in the shuswap (BC) and ride at about 3000 feet on average.....I know, sweet eh!!! LOL!!! and upwards of 6000 feet on occasion.

So mods to be done before it leaves the shop....2010 updated seat, new can to lighten it up, goggle warmer pouch and vents to keep it cool.

Anybody have some suggestions for me on a couple of the above items ie: quality vents and quality exhaust can, the other two are pretty straight forward LOL. Maybe any suggestions on extra tools these cats might like you to carry? How does everyone find the perfrmance of the Power claw track over all?

I had my Doo down to a science but the arctic cat is new to me and my buddies with cats haven't done anything to them yet so no help there.

Thanks for any advice you may have for the new guy.

Congrats on jumping ship! The M's seem to be bullet proof. I had a 09 with 1500 miles on it when i sold and never had one problem other then blowing the belt at 1200 miles. Maybe do some venting with the side panels and you'll be fine. Have fun and enjoy the winter!

make sure you put some type of belt deflection adjuster on it and keep the deflection in check put rock rollers in it and while you have it apart put in the shift assist bearing all in the secondary. Do this stuff and it will run flawless also put the double roller bearing in the bdx drive to keep away frm having a bearing failure

What not to DOO

Do not DOO anything but a turbo :D

You have just bought the best sled to turbo.

I have not tried the gill vents, they might be the best choice out there.

The gearing is a little tall, go 54-66, while your in there change to a double row bearing. ( there is good thread on this)

Get a can that has a built in seal to prevent exhaust gases from reentering engine compartment.

leave the gears. at your elevation they will work fine, they are 57/63 stock. Rock rollers and a shift assist are good to have. Make sure clutching is aligned. The full slp pipe setup rips and the performance package is awesome and bullet proof. Side vents help a lot. The PC is the best track ever built.

I used to have a firecat then totaled it. got 4500 from insurance and got a 05 summit for out west. Nice sled but I liked the m7 I rented year before. Twice the sled of the summit. Sounds like i need to trade the summit off for a m8. Get back on the wagon. Can't wait til next year :D

I have a 2009 M8 162 Sno Pro.

Love mine. Has been a great sled.

Problems I've had were pretty minor.

I had a broken wire on the pipe temp sensor (causing Check engine light) and the oil pump check valve went bad which filled the air box with oil.

Other then that I have 1200 trouble free miles.

I have the vented side panels, Amp riser, Powder Pros, D&D torsional kit and Jaws can. All good products. I really like the torsional backshift. Much faster.

Love the powerclaw track. Nothing short of amazing in the powder and great in the hardpack.

I think power wise the 09 will be down on power compared to the Summit. Sure you don't want a 2010?

I am thinking about getting a 2010 myself.

Do they still have the one with the turbo at Yellowstone in Belgrade? You should get that one.:D Then maybe you can tell me when you ride next. And maybe I might coincidentally be in the same area. I have a poo and want to see if the grass is greener on the other side. Mine has been less than reliable.

WyoBoy1000 said it.
- Leave stock gears
- SLP full pipe wake the engine
- At least shift assist or rather torsional setup. I love my torsional setup :)
- Rock rollers
- SLP Powder Pro skis are good too
- Replace the weak bearing in DD!

Thanks a lot for all your input guys this is opening up my eyes a little to the cat world.

Yes I will run the machine stock for a bit and then go from there. A lot of the suggestions are for the secondary clutch mods for back shifting. I may do somemore research into this as I did my clutches in my doo and the back shifting was phenominal compared to a stock machine and really showed its worth in the trees especialy.

I thought about the 2010 but I am considering a boondocker turbo for this machine next year so this is the reason for the 09 decision. The gearing on this side of the fence is not what I had expected coming from the chain drive world of DOO. My old gears I put in were 20/51 which comes out to I believe 2.55 for a final drive ratio. 57/63 as stock is 1.10 is this correct or am I missing something?

I have a lot to learn about the cat drive train as compared to the Doo drive train I think. Does a guy need any special tools to change the spring and weights in the primary or the spring, rollers, helix in the secondary on these cats? I know the TRA's are a pain in the a$$ compared to the Yamaha clutches. I know some might think, "just take a look at your clutches", but I am currently in Russia working and am not able to dive into the machine.....yet:) Just want to know ahead of time, tips & tricks maybe.

I'm glad to hear the Power Claw track getting good reviews as I was impressed with the Camo extreme I had put on my Doo so I'm sure this track will impress also.

Thanks again fellas!!

Well thanks for clearing that up. Sweet!! I think I like the sound of the 61/57 gear set. 2.39 ratio looks nice for boondocking!!!

on the m8 you don't want to gear up for boonedocking, if anythin down. I would leave it alone and get the clutching dialed.

Havent sold my Doo 06 800 yet, still sitting with blown motor on the trailer. The same trailer that will be used to pick up the 2010 M8 Sno-Pro 153 I bought tonight!

Sorry Doo, but just am sick and tired of being scared to be 30 miles back and hearing the "tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock".
