I need major help! XLT running terrible

I have a 95' XLT and it is running terrible. I am wondering if someone on here can help me out with the proper way to tune and best stuff to look for and clean, etc. sometimes it will "cleanout" and run great, other times it seems to "loadup" and run terrible. also when riding up hill it doesnt have any power. I have to ease it up or even push it to help it get up even the smallest hill. And I have no clue of where on the web is a good place to buy replacement parts for these older sleds. I think I am in need of carb flanges that hold the carbs on.

Best advice is to stop driving the sled now, xlt's will implode if they are not set up right. clean the carbs, fuel pump, check the boots for cracks and replace if nec., make sure you are getting fuel, check line in tank. get carbs synched by a tech - and get carbs cleaned by a tech is my advice also - cleaning and synching should cost less that 100.

also, before you do any of that check the compression to make sure you didnt blow a piston - a dirty lean carb will pop a hole in short order.

That is my next step. I am going to get it into my shop as soon as possible and clean carbs and check comp. I have not been able to find the carb mounting boots online anywhere. Al's had some but they were used. HA not paying what they are asking for used carb boots. Any more info on jet settings and needle clip setting. needle size, etc..

all your carbs setting should be fine at factory unless you can added pipes or something, clean the carbs and go from there, make sure it is a thorough cleaning - check my videos on youtube at www.youtube.com/Lshobie for proper carb and fuel pump rebuilds.

After the intake maintenance, pay the clutches a through visit as well. Like the intake system, XLT's are clutch critical to perform correctly.

All of it. Drive clutch, inspect springs, bushings, weights, slider pucks, tightness, and for grime; driven pully, inspect bushings, springs, cam, shaft and for grime; look at the belt; check chaincase for issues;and, lastly, go through the drive axle and all wheel bearings. The XLT engine desires all the previous to be in good working order. A bad, dragging drive system can make your work on the intake system null.
