I need help please!!!!!

Hey guys so here is my problem, Went to load my sled up to go riding tomorrow and when i started it it was making a jingle souns, so i had a look at the cluch and realized there is a little brass ring in the primary and it is jingling around on the post where the spring is???? i cant seem to get it to thred back on???? what do i do?

That is the primary weight “spider” nut. The Spider is torqued on there at like 200 lbs so unless there is some movement don't let it ruin your weekend. But take it in and have the spider torque checked and the retaining nut retightened with some locktight.

Sounds like a cover plate bushing has come loose ( brass ), only other thing it may be is spider lock nut, either way don't ride it prior to clutch repairs/rebuild.

If it IS the spider nut... you will destroy the clutch cover as the clutch closes... also, the cluch, prior to ruining itself, will not shift out all the way and over rev.

pretty certain you need a clutch rebuild and while it's off check the pto crank seal it's vibration that causes all this and a bearing may be ready to fail

Is it #2, #3 or #17?

You will need special tools to lock this down.

  • Clutch puller
  • Clutch compression tool
  • Clutch holding fixture
  • Spider lock nut socket
  • Large Torque wrench

For these reasons... you should take the clutch into someone that knows what to do.

Most likely... the clutch cover is pounded as well in the area of #2&3...

I know it sucks... but you have to fix this the right way.... or bigger problems can happen.

RMK727 makes a good point... There could be a bigger problem here.... although I had a brand new sled with a loose jam nut (17) that messed up the clutch.

I know that your nearest dealer is a fair distance away... and It's easter...

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for the posts guys!

so i decided to ride it today because it was my last ride of the season and the dealer is closed, funny thing is an hour into our ride my buddy broke his steering tube so we limped back to the truck! for the short time I was on the snow today my sled was only turning 7800 as per usuall, hopefully when she gets fixed up it will run better?

Brass would be the cover bushing. It needs to be replaced before you can go riding.

Polaris went to a garmax cover bushing in all there drive clutches after 98 they our not brass now. the bushing a fiber not metal. more likely it is the lock nut for the spider. the clutch needs to come of and be put on a hold down tool to in stall a new one. You our more apted to hurt the threads on the spider than the cover, has to be fixed before you ride it.

Yeah, I forgot about that. Good on mountainhorse for posting the diagram so it could be identified. Anyway as stated a bit above it is #17 which is the jam nut.
