I need help picking out a TV

I just got my Xmas bonus and I wanna get a flat screen TV for my game room! I have budgeted about 1000.00 for it, but I found some at Wal-Mart for less! (Don't live in the city so popping down to BestBuy or Circuit City isn't convenient) Does anyone know anything about Polaroid TVs? I can get a 42" flat panel HDTV for right around 800 bucks, then I could get an Xbox360 too!

Any comments or advice would be great as I still have the tube type TVs!
PLEASE HELP!

the one thing to consider IMO is do you have windows in the room that you have the TV? the reason I ask is because a plasma has a glass screen so you will get a reflection.. LCD wont have that nasty glare.. I bought and LCD because of that factor and also at the time they were not releasing any plasma with a 1080 resoultion.. cnet is a good place to check out reviews for TV..

Just remember with TV's you get what you pay for.

I would personally save a few more bucks and buy a decent TV.

My girlfriends parents bought a Sylvania Plasma for her grandparents, 2 months later it stopped working. They brought it back got a new one under warranty and again the same thing. Sylvania is working to refund the money.

Yes if you can look into a 1080p.

Plasma has a better screen but you get to deal with the glare. Some will say LCD sucks because you can only view them at certain angles, I saw BS.

Most new LCDs have 180 degree viewing and don't have that problem anymore.

You can buy a Samsung 1080p LCD from best buy around $1300 to $1600. Don't spend the money just cause you have it, save a few more bucks and buy something decent.

I have heard that plasma doesn't work up here at high elevations. In fact nobody even sells them here. You can only find LCD, which is what I was looking for anyway!

There is some crazy technology out there.....I did research for a longtime before I pulled the trigger.....I went with a 42" Sharp Aquos 72 series (very fast, but limited supply) 1080p, with a HD DVD player and a PVR.......The picture in HD is crazy as I can see the sweat on the Players, and I have actually seen spit come out of the actors mouths when they talk.......Oh and Boost Deuce is great to watch in bed.......

JMHO for the money:

Vizio 50" Plasma with true 1080P, etc. I have not seen another TV in this price range, with the reviews associated (CNet, Consumer Reports, etc), that comes close to the picture. My paren'ts 60" LCD Projection Sony doesn't come close, and it was 2.5 times the cost of the Vizio (both TVs bought within 1 week of each other).

I have spent DAYS researching HDTVs for my parents and alongside a coworker who is anal-retentive about making sure he's getting the best for his money. I would buy the Vizio if it were for me.

Used to be true, but now they have high altitude plasma's. They recommend anything above 4800' to go with the high altitude. We bought a 44" LG high altitude plasma and love it. Our livingroom is low light and it works great. If your in high light I would not go with Plasma as there will be glare. Do your research as it will pay off in the long run................

I use a Polariod LCD with my Xbox 360 and have a couple other friends that have the same TVs. They have all worked geat. I also have a Panisonic plasma, but it is the main TV in the living room and I ron't get to play on it very often. The plasma is a lot more clear and brite, but is does have the glare problem with light from outside windows.

I think you probably would be happy with the LCD & the Xbox they make a good combo.

I installed for DirecTv and have seen a lot of HDTVs and Samsung DLPs are by far the best overall picture quality. I would recommend anything DLP.

If your looking at spendy around 1000 I bought a polaroid 40" lcd from wal-mart. Came out to about 920. Has the monitor hookup on it already so u can plug the computer right into it. Unfortunetly it is just a 1080i. I hadnt heard about the 1080p when I purchased it but the picture is excellent and I have not had any problem with glare or not being able to see it in certain possitions. My parents have the 32 inch and a friend has the 26" all love them.

I know its more than you wanted to spend but www.newegg.com has a deal for a Sharp 46" for $1399 I actually got this TV for my parents for 1300 from Sears they priced match bestbuy and beat them by 10% i have the same tv just the older model.. this one is thinner than mine.. Looks awesome with HD-DVD movies and playing games.. Direct Tv has the package where you can get a 100 Hi-Def channels as well..

I am another one beating the Vizio drum, I did 6 months of research before buying a TV and I found the best bang for your buck is a Vizio. I bought a Vizio 32" 720p LCD for under $600 at walmart. You can get a 47" LCD full 1080P from Vizio for under $1600.

The only thing that I dont like about my Vizio is the speakers arent the best, but I have it hooked up to a home theater so I never use them anyway. Dont let the low price scare you away, Vizio isnt the number one brand of LCD TV's for no reason.

How long have you had it? Does WalMart offer a warranty? I don't wanna lose a 1000 bucks!

Whatever you do DO NO BUY A PLASMA! I have a $3000 paperweight for a Gateway boxed LG Electronics 42inch PLasma. Went thorugh 6 of them in the 3 year warranty time and number 7 just konked out 3 months ago. Local places want $500 for a tech to look at it without throwing parts at it or guarantee that the parts will work or have warranty. I found a working TV for $600 shipped but it's another 42 Plasma. Only thing she's good for right now is Ebay the parts out to to guys that might know whats wrong with it and are buying dead plasma's.

Yes. Don't get one if you're above ~2k ft.

My parents have a 37" aquos LCD, mounted on the wall in a corner. Windows on both opposite walls have huge picture windows, and even in the evening with the sunsets in teh windows there's very little glare.

I also have a Vizio and have researched this for the money you can't go wrong and has a great picture, 42" costco $1099.00 I got ours for $899.00 on promotion!! Good Luck..
