I NEED HELP! M8,ETEC8,PRO8

I am coming off an 07 m1200! Looking to upgrade i want reliabiltiy power and fun! I love hill climbing boondocking and carving fresh pow. What is the best sled to upgrade to, i am not brand loyal right now since i have put a fortune into a numerous sleds to keep them running! I am not lookin for huge horsepower up grades on this sled iam looking for fun flickable boondocking hill climbing power and reliability i want to have fun and play all day without worrying about the dam boondocker and adding fuel what is the best sled to upgrade to thanks for ur opinions!

you should try them out and see what one feels the best

opinions are like a-holes everybody has one, ride them all, see what one feels right

All three of those sleds are good in their own rights. I would base my choice on which one is the most comfortable and which one is backed by a good dealer near you. For me that would be the Pro 8.

Fast, Good, Cheap - You can't have it all, so you can chose two.

Good + Fast = Expensive
Good + Cheap = Slow
Fast + Cheap = Inferior

Try to ride all 3. Other wise you will get about 99% brand loyalty with a question like that. Also ask around as to who is the best and most respectable dealer in your area. A bad dealer can ruin a great sled.

last year I rode an 09 XP and was wore out half way through the day riding in the trees. Rode a buddies M chassis for a couple hours and fell in love with the ease of it so I bought a Twisted Turbo 09 HCR in Sept. Then on the first ride in mid Nov on the Cat I rode the new Pro, so I went home put the turbo on Snowest and sold it for a Pro. I'm not brand loyal but for me who is 140 pds soaking wet the Pro was by far the best sled for me and wanting to improve my skills at boondocking. I know it dynoed less then the other 2 but this sled runs hard and I have never been as happy on a sled as I am on this new Pro. My vote is the Pro, this sled is sick!!

ok amclaen, you cannot just go around complaining about a sled locking up without some details. Care to fill us in as to what happened???

Go with a 800 ski doo or a 700 polaris. just had a new pro rmk 800 motor lock up after 8 miles. polaris didn't want to stand behind it either

Dude go troll somewhere else. Anonymous posters have no credibility.

Find a mirror. Look in mirror. Ask the person in the mirror what sled you should buy. Trust the person in the mirror. Buy that sled. Enjoy that sled. Feel sorry for the haters that try and convince you that you bought the wrong sled. Enjoy that sled. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

That's what I did. I was faced with the same decision during the snowcheck window last spring. The M, the E-tech, the Pro are all great sleds. I'm not brand loyal. No Arctic Cat dealer in town. I really like the technology of the Etech, and really wanted that motor. The Pro RMK talked about handling, tree riding, elevating my riding. I chose the Pro RMK, and I love it. Whatever sled you choose, I hope you are as happy as I am with mine. Feel sorry for the haters that try and convince you that you made the wrong choice, that your sled is crap, that you can't ride. RIDE your sled. Enjoy your sled. Repeat.

I agree with you. I have always been non brand loyal as well. Around here everyone buys Yamaha dirt bikes religiously and will tell you your bike is crap if its not a Yamaha. I have always been more about using my brain and reasoning skills and not peer pressure to make my decisions. My first dirt bike was on old beat up pile, it ran like crap and was poorly taken care of. I sold that and decided I didn't want to buy anything that was not fairly new.

I then went and bought a bike that was supposed to have bad valve problems and need a new piston and valves at 40hours. I sold that bike with 150+ hours on the hour meter and had only put a set of rings in it 10 hours before I sold it. I then decided I wanted a new bike and was headed to the kawi shop to get another 250f. I stopped at the local ktm shop to see what they had(I hated their pre 2007 design). I then went home with a new ktm. It just felt so nice and I am a sucker for quality and it was no comparison which was made better.

I have never been disappointed with any power sport purchases.

The point is I bought the bikes and sleds I wanted after doing the research and it has yet to fail me.

Another funny note is that the last two dirt bikes I bought had gotten last in almost every shootout yet I still liked them both much better than the others even after riding the others.

(Nearly) Everything said above is 100% true. You need to take all of that into consideration while making your decision. Especially the comments on your Dealer Support.

That being said, I will give you my personal opinion of each of the 4 makes of Mtn sleds, including Yamaha, because I've ridden all 4 and I own 2.

Let's start with Yamaha (2007 Mtn Apex minus 100#, no Turbo).
Pluses: High Quality, Solid Engineering, 4-Stroke: Tourque, No Smoke or oil to add/mix, Low Maintainance, Long Lasting, Easy on Belts. Semi-Rider-Forward Style Design (this can be a plus or a minus depending on your preference), Easy to roll over in deep snow.
Minuses: Heavy! Can be Lightened-up but only to a point and it takes a TON of $ to do so (don't ask me how I know this). The extra weight can wear you out on a big powder day, not the best track/traction, hard to side-hill.

Ski-Doo (2011 Etec 800 Summit X 163")
PLuses: Light, Less Smoke than any other two stroke, VERY Easy to Roll over in deep snow, Easy to side hill, Great Power, Great Traction, Rider-Forward Design.
Minuses: Unproven motor, Eats Belts? (not so far for me), Computer Break-in period (about 300 miles, won't give you full power until after).

Polaris (2011 Pro RMK Assault 154" Powder Track)
Pluses: VERY light, Easy to roll in powder, Good traction, Good power, Semi-Rider-forward Design.
Minuses: Motor History?.

Artic Cat (2009 M8)
Pluses: Great Motor, Reliable, Tough, Easy to roll in the powder, Good Traction, Traditional Rider Position (again, can be a Plus or a Minus), Fairly Light, Easy to side-hill.
Minuses: Due for a redesign (buy a new M8 this year and the 2012 is all new, now you are stuck with an "old" sled), not the lightest on the mountain.

All four are GREAT sleds. You just have to weigh all the pluses and minus and decide what's most important to you. Don't forget Dealer Support!!
