i need help assembling a recoil

K

knee deep in it

Well-known member
2003 rmk 700 engine. I am re assembling the recoil assembly. I have the rope pully hooked up to the spiral spring and it is retracting. Now I am putting on the friction plate and rathcet . The ratchet rotates out and catches the motor assembly to turn the crank, I can't get it to rotate out.

I am messing up the installation of the big U shaped friction spring (item 3 in the picture) . How does it go onto the friction plate in the correct orientation to cause the ratchet to open?

the parts are:

1 3040163 Nut
2 3040164 Plate, Friction
3 3040167 Spring, Friction
4 5246108 Ratchet
5 3040166 Spring, Return
6 3040168 Reel
7 3040170 Spring, Spiral

your 1st mistake is taking it all the way apart, you don't want to take them apart to put new rope in them. good luck

You should call this guy in DeWinton...I think he sells used stuff. He's got like a strippers name but seems like a good sh!t. Anyway get one from him and carefully take it apart noting how the dumahickey hooks to the ratchety thinga mabob.

Now carefully reasemble yours watcing the spring doesn't let loose and lop off a finger...cause I know this guy that lost his finger tip...it was with a miter saw mind you but you still should be carefull.

Oh and fat chance returning it but now you have a backup the next time your string lets loose. Unless of course the whole thing flew apart when you were carefully taking it apart...in which case you now have two and if you put a cold one in the fridge I'll be over in a bit to drink it and watch you get frustrated trying to put both of those together.

Your Welcome in advance.

Or what pernikm said.

ok, I think I get it. Mine must be wore out because part #3 does not firmly grip part #2. Thanks Penikin.

On my sled, you have to pull the engine to access the recoil so I am going to buy new parts and make sure it is done right.

Hey...I put a lot of thought into my response and I didn't even get a lol. The offer still stands for the cold one...matter of fact theres a few cold ones in my garage right now...

I'll call you later in the week to see how your ride was on Sunday.

Later

Barton, i took your advice and went to DeWinton to see him. He sold me the parts at full price from a recoil I gave him. It is working fine now.

Dusty, if you are reading this, I am kidding. The parts worked perfectly
