I need a new sled, M8 or M1000

I just blew my ZR 800 motor that was converted to a 151 track today:face-icon-small-sad. It had 8500 miles on it, it was a good run!!!! Anyways I'm looking at getting a M8 or M1000 and was wondering what the thoughts on these 2 sleds were. I'm thinking the 1000 because I like to explore and if I drop down something I want to make sure I can get out! I consider myseld to be a good rider that can make my sleds go pretty well and like to ride a bit of everything. All of my riding is done in central Colorado so the snow is usually pretty deep, not like Wolf Creek but still 6' plus where we ride.

The M8 will go a lot better than what you have been riding but, depending on you size, a well set-up 1000 is really amazing. The '10 800HO will take the 1000 for a while but whenyou have a long pull in the deep the hugh torque of the 1000 is king.

How big are you? If you are heavy like 200 plus the 1000 with a 162 would be good. If you are lighter like 130-199lbs the m8 would be a good choice. It depends, both sleds are good. I personally would not get a M8 with 162 I'd stick with the 153. If I were to go with a 162 I'd rather have it on a 1000. My M8 with a 153 is sweet for boondocking and climbs the steep well.

M8

I just got a new 2010 M8 sno pro 162, my two riding buddies have 07 1000s, 162 and this new M8 took them on all of the hills, i dont know how a 2010 would be, all of the sleds are stock

If you want power there is no way an 800 will keep up with a piped , geared and clutched m1000 . And the 09 and newer feel light . After coming off of a zr 800 it will feel really light .

I am a short and light guy, around 5'4 and 155lbs. I have to say I'm not concerned about the 1000 because I figure riding my boat of a ZR will make it easier to ride the M series. I just want to make sure that I can climb out of what I get into. My buddy had a 07 M8 and I did get to ride that one and it was pretty impressive but I worry about the issues that the 07's had with the reflashing and the CCU or whatever that was with those. I guess what I am wondering is, is the 1000 that much better than the 800. I Would love the 1000 especially if it is going to keep me out of some trouble.

any opinions on 1) rear suspension difference and 2) weight shifting/handling difference (do the 800 and 1000 engine mounting/positioning factor in handling) on the 2010 M8 and M1?

do the m8 with a 153....you will be very impressed with what you get....in straight up pull i got just as high as my buddie on a 08 m1000....its in the tight stuff i like the torque of the 1000, can almost come to a stop on any hill and take off again

Thanks guys I'm thinking the 1000 is the way to go. I dont want to buy the M8 and regret not having the power of the 1000. Please look for my other thread on here and throw me your input on the durability of the 1000.

I thought the 1000 was definately the 1000 was the way to go, so I bought one last year. Just bought a '10 M8, and it whips my stock 1000 in every sense of the word. Climbs better, boondocks through the trees better, better oil and fuel consumption, more linear power curve, and way lighter feeling. My 1000 was stock with a powerclaw and a can. It ran really good, and I never knew that it got much better until I got this M8. It gets up on the snow much better, and you are able to hammer, let off, and hammer again without trenching to China. In my experience I have not found one down side from down sizing.

Is your M8 stock also or did you do any mods? I hear the 1000 has quite a bit better low end though and I would have to believe that the torque would be better when climbing the real steep stuff.

AC website lists HP for 800 but does not for M1. the M8 is lighter and has coil over suspension. I think the M8 is the way to go for stock. But worry about all of the 'stab' comments on AC and why AC does not have an OE anti stab kit??

I had the same decision to make as you as do last fall. Went with the 1000, I weight 180, with gear 200lb. With the 162 the fox floats help you boondock easier... besides you put the slp exhaust system you have over 200 hp not to mention you now weigh the same as a stock m8 with 200cc more. I love my 1000

2010 m8 with the 162. stay away from the 153 unless you do alot of dragging short tracks are for the flat land...
the truth is 100 has a amazing arm streching pull. but this new 800 has a linner power that truely works. I still cant beleave its a 8...
this is the first sled i have owend that i have keep stock for any time. all i have done is put a can on it and the Geo mod. and thats all it needs
I ride with a few 1000 and not a few xps anot one goes as high as this years m8... im totaly blowen away

oh i do also have noss on it and have not filled the bottle in it, dont need it...
