I just read the new issue of Montana Outdoors. A self proclaimed "Biologist" from Missoula wrote a letter to the magazine stressing his concern that "Extreme snowmobiling and highmarking" is threatening mountain goat habitat and that state and federal biologists should take steps to prohibit snowmobiling within a half mile of thoses areas. He signed the article Greg Munther, PH.D. Do you suppose Mr. PH.D. Has ever noticed wildlife tracks or actually seen deer and moose walking down a snowmobile trail allowing them to conserve energy during heavy snow periods? Typical tree hugger. Ignor the good , exploit the bad. I don't have to guess who he's voting for.

I'm curious, has anyone on here ever seen a mountain goat when they were out riding? I wonder if this is really something this guy has witnessed or if it is just a new angle to try close more areas.

I've seen goat tracks in places of high concentration of goats...never seen a live goat at all in those places. EVER.

Never seen a Mountain Goat while riding. But I did see a black midget on an Arctic Cat once.:eek: Tell Mr. PhD to leave us alone. And besides that, his Toyota Prius couldn't make it up the pass in winter to even check on the MTN Goats!

I'm no biologist but I do know that there has never been a goat where we go sledding, 17 feet of forkin snow and no food isn't exactly prime goat habitat in the winter months.....

I've seen goats....on the road in the cannons!!!

Riding I've seen cat tracks late spring, otherwise NOTHING is up that high in the heart of winter. Just goes to show these azzhat's make chet up.

I would try to figure out a way to make him prove his claim legally. If it is threatening the habitat, WHERE is the proof? If it was a scientific study, then there must be scientific data in order to reach a conclusion...

Supena (sp) him (or his information) and lets just see what he comes up with:confused::D

These guys need to be put in their place in a LEGAL fashion or they'll just keep making up bigger stories.:eek:

You could claim perjury, except that he wasn't under oath when he made the statement (d@m#it):mad:

:beer;:beer;

Though this may sound lameto some ,we are fighting this very thing here in Troy Montana. i go all over around here i i don't see these goats or tracks, except very late in the spring. But beleive me it is shutting our riding down big time.:mad:

Yes I have seen goats.On a wind blown ridge last year and we were close or we'd have never seen them. They did not run away but slowly walk higher up the ridge. About ten years back we had one of those biologists tell us that a goats heart rate will increase from a snowmobile 2 miles away. We said never seen goats before and he says you gotta be close to see them. When asked how he seen them, he replied in a chopper. He would not comment on what the poor goats heart rate did with a chopper 300ft away was. Just another excuse to ban snowmobiling.
