I have the worst luck.

I was riding the mm today and I was tearing it up. A couple hours into riding the sled died going straight up hill! When I got to the bottom it wouldn't pull.. I looked and the oil was full. It turns out the oil cable was disconnected at the throtle!!! Went through a half tank with no oil. I changed the plugs and turned the clutch then pulled it and it started right up and I rode it to the truck. I put 1/2 Quart of oil in the gas tank. So I'm thinking pistons and rings?
It ran normal after it started.

Hopefully that oil cable became disconnected shortly before you squeeked it. If you really ran a half tank without it connected your crank bearings would not be happy But they are still getting a little oil depending on where your oiler is set. If you were doing lots of WOT riding then I'd be concerned.
Do a compression check asap! Most like likely you stuck just one cylinder and compression will be down a little.
Also you can saftey wire your throttle so the cable ends dont fall out of the notch. This usually is a result of rolling your sled over getting unstuck. The throttle block gets all jammed up with snow and then the snow compacts when you flip the throttle and then pulls the cable out of the notch. I have seen this twice now riding with other Yamaha owners over the years.
Take a very small drill and drill down though the throttle flipper and goin though the little plastic ears where the cable ends engage into the notch. then another hole right next to it it right at the top then safety wire thu first holes and back down thru second hole then bend it over so it wont lift out.
I might have some pics of this mod somewhere.
