I hate Walmart but truckers are idiots and need to see...

First off let me say if you are a trucker I apologize for lumping you all together. I know there are some independents that do there best for bottom line but those guys are fewer than the ones I refer to.

ie, I have 3 GOOD friends that are independents and 2 out of 3 when asked..."If you could have a truck get 15 MPG but looked like a odd duck would you do it? there answer was "NO, I gotta keep my 379 flat top" It is this mentality that has to go. This IS the future of trucks in one way or another. As much as I HATE to see Walmart do this I am glad someone is. I can't believe Cat just threw in the towel and did not even try to come to market with something like this. We will be seeing this sort of thing in the near future on every interstate.
Tests show 13 MPG and that IS HUGE compared to the 5-8 mpg! This alone would have a huge impact on our nations fuel consumption.

it looks like they are going back to the snub nose from the late 50's early 60's that gmc and IHC had~ only with a modern flare~ heck~ if i was still in the trucking business i would be all over it~~ higher mpg can actually result in better pay and benefits for the drivers and bottom line~~~ staying in business~~

There's a lot of pecker swinging amongst truckers.

Peterbilt is to trucks like Harley Davidson is to motorcycles.

ie - "You ain't sh!t if you ain't runnin' a Pete!"
Gonna be tough to reason with that mindset.

Same with guys that only run Mack. Same with guys that only run Kenworth. I'd love to get 8mpg with my flat top Pete. I'd love to have a newer truck, but when decent newer trucks are $50k and up there are gonna be a hell of a lot of guys that will never be getting into one of these new contraptions if the corporate world does and floods the market with nice conventional trucks.

If a Prius could tow a 28 foot sled trailer at 80mph and get 17mpg, I still wouldn't buy one.

Some of these things were thought up by people who have never been around a truck in their lives. That skirting over the wheels may save diesel but after the first blowout that stuff is gonna be trash. Even putting air in a tire with that stuff on there is gonna be a pain. And I'd love to see the tire guys face at the shop when you go in for a flat repair or a set of tires.

The first one poasted looks like the tires are as accessible as it's gonna get~

Heard the Pete was built with access in mind, dzus fasteners or something?
I'm sure somebody set the engineers straight.?

JMHO but a tractor trailer making 13 to 15 mpg? Doubt it no matter how aerodynamic it is. With all the emission controls on engines now days! Anyone remember the Cummins in the Dodge when it first came out? 24 was achievable on the highway not pulling all the time. 14 pulling was possible, Now we are happy with what 15 highway and 10 towing? And those trucks look like crap in my opinion. The old school short hood conventionals look the best.

Ya but you gotta remember that trucks now are bigger, with a TON more safety and convenience equipment now, heavier because of it, have twice the power, much more sound deadening, etc, etc. 2 way street.

you can keep that prototype, areo-POS to yourself......center seat is a no-go, how are you supposed to get into that tiny assed bunk and how in the heck can you work on it
I owned a T600....7-8 MPG was great....but I wasn't near gross getting that

sure the mileage would be great.....but any of us that have owned one know the rate will drop just as fast as the fuel surcharge

nope, I'll keep this 389 pete glider with a twin turbo CAT
