I tore my left pectoral majoris tendon doing dips @ the gym this morning.

I have to get an MRI this sunday, but I went to the sports medicine doctor today and he told me if it was totally torn they'd have to operate to reattatch it, but if it wasn't torn all the way off they'd just let it heal.

I'm looking at a 6 month recovery time either way I guess :face-icon-small-sad

So I guess my first ride of the year will be Spring Fling 2015 ..... :noidea:

*sigh*

Attention 30+ year olds: You aren't in your 20s anymore, so stop trying to lift like it :face-icon-small-con

torn pec

fell off the bow of a boat (had been drinking moderately i think) and on my way down grabbed the rail that goes around the front. i noticed a small dent where it hurt but could still move it. a few days later went to the doc and he said it was a partial tear and as long as i didn't mind the dent, it would heal on it's own. after the blue and yellow went away, it took about two weeks before i could use it "normally". it did take a few months before i felt confident in the gym. best of luck.

I had that same injury different mechanism but end result was the same. Had surgery in October of 2012 and was riding by Jan. You can postpone until season is over. The surgery is best as early as possible to preserve the tendon but a good surgeon can make a tendon if your native is gone. Rehab protocol is pretty standard pm me if you want to. I have 20 years if fitness and post rehabilitation experience with referrals from multiple orthopedic surgeons in boulder. Plus I did my own pt and was back pressing the weights I was before the surgery within 1 year

I figured out that the key to a long snowmobile season is to never go to the gym. ;) Sorry to hear about that, Aaron.

AAAAaaaaaaaaaaaand the verdict is!

Total rupture of the left pectoral tendon. Talked to the doctor today and he said it tore clean off my arm bone and rolled 2" back up into my chest, which would also explain why I can't see it anymore when I look in the mirror compared to the other one.

So, he also said it would never heal on its own and I'd essentially have to learn to live with a permanent disability if I didn't have it surgically reattached, sooooooooooooooooo ..

I'm getting cut and hacked on and welded up tomorrow :)

Hopefully by Spring Fling I can ride ;)

Not the typical orthopedic injury here. Mostly shoulders and acls. By now you have had the surgery and your stuck with your arm next to your side for the next 6 to 7 weeks. Starting pt in 3 weeks. The protocol is pretty simple if you havent seen it yet, you can here. . There will come a point when your bicep will start to ache, when that happens after week 3 go ahead and straighten your arm just MAKE SURE that you don't contract your pec. I slid my arm out of the sling but allowed the sling to rest against my elbow supporting my arm without straining the pec. If you don't have a foam roller get one and use the SH** out of it.
Best thing you can do is follow the protocol. When you are able to start exercising and tugging on the anchor a bit, ie out of the sling. Start stretching! Lie on your back and let your arm fall out to the side with your elbow and your shoulder in line and a 90 Degree elbow angle. You may have to support your elbow on a pillow or a yoga block, if you have one. Gradually remove the supports and allow your arm to rest on the floor. Hold as long as you can. Find yourself a damn good body worker and get some work. We utilize the rossiter system at my facility. Its amazing and works wonders on tight fascia, which you will have plenty of. http://therossitersystem.com/try-rossiter.htm for a local practitioner if you need one. Also, accupuncture will help to stave off scar tissue.
I hope this helps and good luck. I remember mine like it was yesterday. Once you can start strengthening life gets so much better!

Good luck.
