But I like you guys, and I'm glad to be here. I've had all the M sleds and yet I'm here. Sorry but lack of money is the main reason, but still my 975 mod King has the most power and gives me a huge rush. I've let go three M-sleds, but not the King. The M's don't have a big punch off the line. Probably not what is needed when easing up on top of new deep snow, but it gets there anyway. I never went over backwards on a M, and there again, it might not be safe, but it's a thrill my M-8 never gave me.

Long live the King!!!!!!!!!

long live the king

I hear you on the old king cat. I've spent the last four seasons on the king and she just keeps getting better. Last season I put a sixteen wide camo extreme on it and geared it down a bit and now all of my buddys with new sleds can't touch me hill climbing. Last weekend I even rode with a skidoo 800 piped and reeds and he was still about 50 feet short of my himark boy was he ever mad. I keep thinking well maybe this is the last year for it but there is really no reason for me to get rid of her. And i have rode a few m series sure they handle a little better but the power just isn't the same.

I have never ridden a "M" series! What machines are you talking about 700,800 1K etc... Why don't these have the low end punch of the Ol'e 9? I would assume the 1K would have it and then some! But a 975 probably has more all around than a 900 especially in the midrange! I am one of those old die hards waiting to skip over this 2nd generation Cat and see what comes up in the near future. They have finally come out with a rear suspension that rides nicer over the whoops and a 800 that should be a equal to the 9? Has anyone ridden a HO 800 and how does it compare in overall power? Thanks Mike

I'm not sure why they don't have the off line snap.

I think it's the gear drive system, but it could be the design of the engine.
My M-8 Sno-Pro was nice. It laid the smake down on the Doo's , Poo's and older M-8's. It even held its own against a M-1000. I'm not sure quite where a stock 900 would fall. Close to the M-1000 I'd guess in a straight climb.

As a pretty faithful M1000 fan, gotta agree... it takes a few bucks to get the bottom of an M1000 to feel like the 900 did stock. The 9 is just such a great sled right out of the box for how old it is. Sure wish they handled like an M though!

C'mon though... you can't compare a 975 mod to a stock or even close M1000!:face-icon-small-hap

If anything I would think it is the rear clutch being either 10.4/10.0" is why it doesn't have the snap? I think they lost too much leverage at the beginning to get things moving? If the exhaust valves opened sooner on the 9 I think it would have a more linear powerband like the M1? Does porting the 9 help with throttle response or make it lazier at the bottom end? Otherwise I am out working on it trying to shed more weight and getting it ready for the season!
Thanks Mike

The 1m 900 titanium with slp pipe and a 35hp shot of nos was almost or was equal to my 07 slp piped m1000 both 162's. The 1000 just spins out of the whole thats why it feels like there is no go, I've been over backwards more than once on my 09. I still want you to bring that 975 out so we can see whats what.

I'll be right out if.....

You show me the secret way into TOW from Red Lodge. I know it exists. You guys are just so guarded.

What is TOW? Red lodge is down by Butte is it not? We should all have a 1M gathering someday. We would at least have enough parts to keep a couple running! Mike

LOL.. Red lodge is south of Columbus or 50miles S. W. of Billings. I know where it is but still havent road it, there was only a few times last year that we had enough snow. You have to come riding to prove that thing will make it first.:D

Hang on tight and smile

I have no way to compare any other sleds to my 2003 900 1M as it's my first sled ever owned ( let alone ever ridden ) and was just purchased at the end of last winter. But I can say that when I romp on the throttle I need to hang on for dear life and it gives me the biggest smile and rush I have ever felt....WOW

I just got that feeling on this 09 hcr I picked up, (with a hair dryer) my adrenalin hasn't pumped like that for a while.

TOW. is The Top of the World area East of Cooke City

It has more area than Cooke and sometime more snow. The only way in for most of us is from the West. A long truck trip on Chief Joseph Hwy. Many of us ride from Cooke City, but you need extra gas for that trip. It could be a much shorter trip from the town of Red Lodge, but a wilderness area blocks the route and the switch back highway is generally a bad slide site. People die there.

Owen

We go up the highway all the time, I don't think its all that bad and havent heard of anyone dieing, the danger is a white out, then you stop, or you could be going off a big a$$ cliff. It doesn't take all that long either. The short cut looks like it could take just as long but your not having to ride the road.

Sorry about that, I was thinking of Deer Lodge. Now I now where you guy's are talking about! Thanks Mike
