At least that's what they said on the traffic radio 1610 this a.m. in North Bend
It looks like most folks are staying home, I usually see 40-50 rigs going up as I drive to Bellevue on a Sat morning... Only saw 2 today...

Wazzup ?

Can anybody give an update or validate this?

We would like to at least go for a road ride Sunday...

Heard this term used on here before so have got to ask, WTF is a Snowpark?

A snowpark is what the state of Washington calls the area at the trailhead that we park at. When we register our sleds every year we get tabs as well as a snowpark permit that we must display in our vehicle window. Without this permit you get a big fat ticket. The proceeds from the permit pay for trail grooming as well as plowing the parking areas.

Well who knew, thats Ice Cap! :beer;

They are still closed!!!

Temperature: N/A

Restrictions Eastbound:
No restrictions

Restrictions Westbound:
No restrictions

Conditions & Weather:
Bare and wet with slush in places. Pass is open. WSDOT will continue intermittent avalanche-control as needed. Avalanche-control efforts may result in highway closures of an hour or longer due to higher than average snow volumes. Interchanges and Sno Parks from North Bend to Easton are closed to parking due to avalanche danger off road level. Camera images on the web page are not always updating due to on going power problems at the summit. Updated information will be provided as available. // Overcast skies with light snow

Another way for the state to get some more money.....rather ironic that the snow park is a public way, built with public funds, attached to a public road....but in order to use it during "our" time of year, we have to pay extra....If the wind blows a bunch of trees down during the snowless time of year into the parking lot, do the summer time users pay for cleanup???? Noooo....Does the snow park get plowed with the road after every storm??? Nope.....I have yet to see a snow park so huge that it takes more than 30 minutes to plow with one truck and/or one blade plus a blower.....That's 1 man hour plus equipment.... I've plowed a lot of snow at a certain ski area outside of Bend and it ain't the state gettin' screwed plowing out a parking lot. Yet next year they'll say they will have to raise fees rather than plan/balance their budget....wheeew, rant over....

It's not about the plowing! It's about safety. They dont want any of us out in the back country when the avy danger is so high. I for one cant blame them. As much as I want to ride, Is it worth my life and the endangerment of others to come save/find me?? NO!

There is a ton of snow thats not going anywhere soon! Plenty of safe, fun ride time later.

Rob.

Could not agree more, well said!

Stampede Snowpark was not closed

I rode today from 10 am until 5 pm and the snowpark was not closed. I spoke with the ranger up there and he said the signs were for people that were coming off of the freeway....???? I didn't really understand but there were only about 25 rigs total up there all day today.

I may be wrong but as I understand it the snoparks are plowed with state or county (except crystle springs is done by a private contractor) serices, but dut to the high snow fall, they have not been able to get to the snoparks,,,,,,,,,after they catch up on the roads they will hit the other areas...............

Beaucoup Snow

Did a quick tour around the Pass to check out the conditions up there. Definately lots of snow up there and lots of work being done by the WSDOT.

Gold Creek was just getting broke into with the blower when we pulled up but they blocked him in with a loader to prevent other people entering behind him. I talked with a DOT worker while I was there and he told me that tomorrow they will be dropping explosives from helicopters all along I-90 to bring down more unstable snow. Hopefully nobody is up there when that is going on and he even said that hopefully no one is either.

Crystal Springs sno-park is all plowed out and amazingly well. There was Dozen or so vehicles up there what we saw.

Kachess sno-park and the road back was great but at the end, there is a wall of snow but access to get through on a sled. Talked to a group of sledders that just got back and they said it was unbelievably deep. They only put on 35 miles and burnt a tank of gas. They never made it to the tower since there was plenty of deep snow just on the road and so on.

Price Creek sno-park you can't even drive into. There is a wall of snow on the exit at least 5 feet high. Who knows how soon that will open.

P.P.
