Got a friend with a 08 700 RMK. He was wondering how to test his voltage regulator to see if its OK! His sled does't idle at times ,and wont go into reverse and dies. He tested his stator and that was fine so he's thinking VR? Thanks for the Help!!

Back to testing the vr. I have an 09 800 assualt with a turbo. Tps was throwing codes. Dealer put a new one on then the sled started throwing crank sensor codes. The trigger was bent. They fixed that said the sled should be good to go. Now The sled will run for about 5 minutes then shut off. I can fire it back up and it will idle for about 5 seconds then die. Let it sit for about 2minutes then it fill run for about 30 seconds. The longer it sits the longer it will run but I cant go past half throttle tell it shuts down. At idle the vr shows 14 volts but im wondering if its giving it to much and or to little once the rpms start coming up? Anyone have the same problem when a vr went bad?

Kipperdavis is referring to my sled. I will run great for a while once it is warmed up and hit the trail about 10-15 mins on the trail will start cutting in and out. But it will not completely die though, but it will run wide open with no problems. If you shut it off for a 5-10 minutes and start it will idle so low that u can get it in to reverse when u try to start it back up again the dash will blink and clicks and if u hit the throttle it will die. Try and start it up again and baby the throttle to get it to run and it will go. Not sure what it my be it had a new stator put in around 200 miles on it and it has 800 on it now. Any ideas let me know? Thanks

This is how mine acted when it was throwing a tps code... I would have a dealer hook it up to the computer and see what it says... Also will a sled run at all if the vr takes out the ecu?

Mine did the same thing and it turned out to b the fuel pump going bad. I didn't realize it because it's hard to check(when cold it had 60psi liked its supposed to). Mine would run great for about 6-8 miles and then start to sputter or die. Fuel pump when heated started pulling to much amperage was issue. Shut it down and let it cool and start it back up and it would run great for a short time.
I first checked stator, voltage regulator, capacitor, etc. and it all checked out fine.

Thanks for the info. Just check voltage at head light and it was at 12.
I will take it in to the dealer and check for codes. The last time out west I did flash the check engine light
