A group of 5 of us South Dakota boys are planning on heading to revy march 8th through the 13th. I was hoping for some advise from this side of the boarder on what route to take, border crossing, what to bring, where to stay ect. And also from the guys in B.C. Where should we stay? In Revelstoke, or is there a place up top to stay. Where do you ride? Is a guide needed? Anyone interested in riding with us/showing us around for supper/beers ect. We need somewhere to start so any information is appreciated. Also, what elevation should we clutch for?

Thanks,
Tyler

I like days inn. Lotsa sledders stay there (good size parking lot) Two hot tubs, One outside on roof. Right next door to zalas (great restaurant). Elevation 5-8k. Don't have trips planned that far ahead yet but I ride there lots. I'll keep those dates in mind when closer an let ya know.

Fastest route would be to go up to minot and cross at the border just southeast of Estevan Saskatchewan. The only thing about entering Canada early in your trip is you will pay more for fuel, food and lodging.

didn't think about the fuel costs. Any idea how much more fuel costs in Canada? Do we need to get Canadian cash at or the border or do most places take the U.S. Dollar?

Just got back from that area and had a great time. We have decided in the last couple of years to ride Sicamous instead of Revelstoke but both have great areas. Fuel will cost you, we take our gas but still have to buy diesel for the truck. I think regular was $1.25 a liter and diesel was $1.43 a liter...close to $200 to fill the truck but hey it costs to play. Also plan on spending $20 a day per sled for trail/grooming , or at least that is the cost where we were. I live close to the border so I buy money at my bank, I would assume any border town would be the same.

Have fun and be safe...Beacons, probes, and shovels!!!!!!

Wow. Sounds like staying in the U.S. as long as possible isn't a bad idea at all. Gonna be spend, but sounds like it should be worth it. Now we just need someone to show us around!!

We have stayed at the Super 8. It's decent, I liked it. Decent parking all around the hotel. There is a Tim Hortons right next door and fuel station. This Sunday we are staying at the Mountainview motel in Revy. Never stayed there before, it's quite a bit cheaper though.

We went last year, only one guy been to the mountains before. Depending on what you want to do, we never needed a guide though. We only went to Boulder, it is a 4 mile drive from Super 8. We maybe saw 10% of Boulder in 3 days.

You need beacons, they check for them. 5500-7500' I believe is the elevation.

Bring your sled registration to cross the border. Don't bring guns.

Make sure you have locks for your trailer, don't lock your trailer when you are driving.

Fuel is really expensive in Revelstoke. Last year we filled up 3-55 gallon barrels in Alberta. Saved about 0.20-0.30 per litre. You need cash for trail pass. Last year it was about $20. You can pay with Debit/interact or Mastercard at most places.

The best bet is to get Canadian at your bank. You can use ATMs but be prepared to get hosed on the ATM fee and conversion rate.
