how to rebuild a recoil

doing it again, rope keep snapping and I finally figured out where it was rubbing. How do re-assemble to get lots of tension on it. The last time I re assembled it, it seemed like it was kinda tired. It would recoil but not with much vigor.

wind the spring an extra rev or 2 when you put the rope in,

how do you preload it? the spring sits in the bottom of the housing and I put the rope/pulley wheel assembly on top of it and it catchs the spring.

How do you wind the spring an extra turn and then attach it to the pulley wheel?

Use the pulley to tighten the spring.

Why did you take the spool off to put a new rope in? You thread the rope into the spool hole pull it through the housing. Lift a loop up and wind the spring with the rope passing up through the notch in the spool. Wind it up a few turns, 6 to 8, pull the rope tight out of the housing a let the spring pull it into the spool. Once you get it so it winds in enough rope to fill the spool, it should be set to put on the sled.

I am a little slow, but I think you are saying to engage the pulley wheel into the spring and then feed the rope into the housing and onto the wheel.
