how to measure crank run out

Can someone give me an idea of how to check crank run out? I know what kind of tool I need just the process of actually measuring.

As far as i understand, you need to pull the crank, have a mount on the bench to hold the outer races of the crank bearings and you measure the up and down movement of the crankshaft in the bearings themselves. Never done it before though, so dont do it on my advice only

I was afraid of that, was hoping to do it while in the sled?

Isnt that basically measuring bearing clearance? Isnt the crank run out checked out on the PTO Side of the crank where the clutch mounts using a dial indicator
