How to get out of cell contract???

Currently trying to get out of our Alltel cell phone contract due to the garbage service we have recieved in the past yr, ie. calls not even ringing in just going strait to voice mail (2 diff phones), blackberry (POS BTW), not being able to conect to browser, etc. Anyone have tips or tricks to try breaking contract without getting smacked with the termination fees??? Current contract still has 14 months to go:mad:

I had luck a few years ago with leaving Sprint by calling them and complaining every time there was a problem. They were not going to let me out early (11 months). But I started calling every time I had a dropped call (in a supposedly good area) or when my blackberry has connection problems. I made sure they noted my account every time and they would always give me a credit of a couple of bucks (I was on a unlimited plan anyway). Finally after calling them at least 100 times I bet in 1 month I asked for a manager and asked to be let out early because of all the poor service (which was documented). After some smooth talking about how in another two months they would have credited be more then the remaining contract was worth they let me out.

It took a while and was a complete pain in the *** but it did work.

Good luck with your fight!:beer;

when i worked with sprint cellular (a long time ago), they would on occasion let people out if you had health concerns about brain tumors and such... to this day they haven't proven/disproven the correlation... do some quick web research about it and cite a few studies and you'll have some leverage...

The only person that I know that got out of the contract had to die to do it. Seems kind of extreme to me.:D

Most everyone that has gone the route of... "lack of signal/service" in an area has been successful in getting out of a contract. If they test and get what makes them happy then you'll have to document and call for each occassion of failure......or pay....

bullfrog.. i hear ya.. i'm trying to do the same with alltel right now.. but i still have like 16months on mine..... they are straight up tryn to F me over on the deal....

ohh.. and to anybody that reads this and is looking for a new phone... DO NOT GET AN HTC Diamond... they are junk....send me three phones now for warrenty issues.. got the 3rd one on friday.. and guess what.. it doesnt work either...

I hear ya SK... Futher muckers at Altell are jackin me around tonite, saying they will send a tech out within the next 2-4 weeks to test signals and chit. F-that!!!!!!! I already know the signal and service is junk!(been dealin with it for 8 months)!! Blackberry and LG Scoop are both loosing service by the week. But do you think that Alltel gives a crap what the customer has to say???? He!! NO.

Either way I am switching to AT&T tomorow!!!!!!! I know their service works in my area as my dad has I-phones and EVERYTHING works around here whereas the Blackberry takes 5-10 min per page to load. Guess we will have 2 new I-phones tomorow and take the termination hit:mad: but...

Pay Alltell another $2100 for remainder of contract w/ chit service or...
Pay termination fee and get new phones and better service NOW for $700.00:rolleyes: Makes sence to me and for my business to take the hit and get better service;)

Just Frackin makes my blood boil how they got ya by the balls, Pay for service that is chit, or pay to disconnect:mad::mad::mad:

I had similar problems with Verizon, called them on a monthly basis about crappy service around here. Once, they gave me 3 new phones that were supposed to be "high power". They worked decent for a while. There were 3 towers go up within 30 miles of here and not a one of them were Verizon, waited it out to see if the Alltell/Verizon merger would affect it any, but nope. They said they had no plan to put up any towers in this area in the next years plan. They said I should be able to pick up the other towers, but I could be parked right beside them and have no service. So, I was surfing their website and found the tech for this area and sent him an email saying he should grab a few members of his "network" and head up this direction and check things out. Then I emailed someone else and that kind of got things done, she had someone from inside Verizon call me and he said "we could send someone out there in our service van and check the service, but according to our map I can see what he will report back", he apologized for the crappy service and said at this point he would let me out of our contract for $0.00 if I wanted or he would send me a Network extender to try. I agreed to take the Network extended and try that out and as long as I'm in my house or around the yard I can use it and get excellent signal, so that helps. I've been with Verizon for 15 years and I told him I've been patiently waiting for service to get up to this rural area, but with my monthly bill being over $200 now I feel I should be able to use the dam things. He agreed. This Network extended is a $250 piece, so I was happy he went that far, plus he fanagled my "new every 2" renewal date and I was able to get a new Blackberry Storm for $199.

Talking with the CSR's really gets you no where except more pissed off. I've had the "we'll send someone out to check signal" crap enough that I should see a Verizon van full of geeks parked out front but have never seen anyone or anything related to Verizon in this area.

He also told me that we had a contract, between them and myself, I paid them for a service and they were contractually obligated to provide that service and since they were not able to provide me with acceptable service they would let me out for $0.00. First time I've ever heard that.... but I wasn't about to argue, I think that would be a good argument for you.

Good luck.

yeah call them up and buy your way out of the contract. I have had good luck with alltel over the years but I have terrible service with Att. all of those cell phone companies are shady

well frogger... at least you have at&t... here we have either alltel or verision... both suck b@lls.. because here.. if you have alltel you cant use verison towers. but if you have verison you can use alltels..... and if you are with verision you can get all the phones availble by both companies.. but if with alltel you can only get theirs..

this is all with the big "merger" they have had in the rest of the U.S.. but not here in the good ol'SD.....

The tech "broad" I dealt with tonite said I am still with Alltel and the Verizon merger has NOT been implimented in my area yet, so am still using only Alltel towers. Funny thing is, is other peeps who have Verizon here have SO MUCH BETTTER service it ain't even funny:mad:

Either way I am finished with Alltel/Verizon/who the F U C K ever!!!!!!!!! I know they all have faults....but customer service and goes a LONG way in my book;)

verison just took over unicell here. it didn't go smooth. couldn't get mess for a week. everyone was getting new phones in the mail. turning them on without turning there old one off first. there smallest plan is 700 mins fing joke 100 for 2 phones / month. we didn't get new phones so we are still under are old contract which cheaper. they will have a monoply soon

I wasnt sure if it would go on your credit or not is it a fact it does?

Yes it will affect you in the future bud!!!! Cell companies are tied closely to credit score companies!!!! Don't take advantage of their free phones, free minutes, free this and that gimmick!!!! Cell companies WILL AND CAN GET YA!!!;);) Been there done that back in early 90's when cell's and credit co's started working together ;) took long time to clear my name and # up;)

yes it is a fact that it goes to your credit score.

I screwed up and went verizion for a little bit from at&t. It was a huge mistake for me cause their service sucks balls in my area, but on their cool little map it said they had great service in my area along with a bunch of store sales people. well after a couple months of not being able to make a call hardly anywhere around my house or home town I went to the store and raised holy hell when the store was busy for about 45minutes. I think it drove off a couple of custmers of theirs but got out of that BS early term contract fee.

Might be something to try. and I waited till it got busy:D

interesting to hear peoples opinions on the blackberrys too cause i love mine with at&t
