I recently did 2 different polaris primary clutches for a couple of young guys I know. I bought 2 rebuild kits from spi because they were half the price of polaris kits, moneys tight for most of us these days and I thought I'd give them a try. Big mistake. The one guy was back in my shop with less than 200 miles on his sled because he hit a stump and while repairing that damage I looked at his clutch. The rollers were completely shot. Where the edge of the weight was it had cut the roller almost in half. The rollers are apparently made from a very soft material that just wears at a ridiculous rate. I got ahold of the other guy and asked him to bring his sled back so I could look at the clutch, he had about 600 miles on his and it was even worse than the first one. Bottom line the rollers in spi clutch rebuild kits are absolute garbage. I ended up having to rebuild 2 cluches again using oem kits. I work for beer, these young guys need to learn about the sleds they have, you gotta start somewhere right? so I show them how things work and I get to drink beer for free on a saturday night. This time ended up costing me money, I"ll eat it because I'm the one that should know better. I wanted to contact spi and ask them about this but I can't find any contact info and I guess they are some vague overseas company. So guys, you can give my experience some thought next time you are buying clutch rebuild kits. I'm not saying don't buy spi, just saying what happened to me.
