How to change Oil?

I just bought a 2001 Ski-Doo Summit and the previous owner used Synthetic Oil (Ski Doo I think). I use regular 2-Stroke oil (Wal-Mart brand - hold comments please). Is it possible to change from the Synthetic to the Regular oil? How should I do it if it is possible?

Just dump the supertech in and start runing it. No problems with mixing it. I have mixed lots of oils and mixed the supertech several times with no problems.
People post all the time not to mix oils. Every time I see some one post it I ask what oils they mixed and had problems. I never get a response.

Yep badass is right. I suggest running your oil as low as you can then add the other oil. You will need to clean your power valves more often but that is easy to do.

I did the same thing. 02 summit. I used synthetic for the first two gallons and WOW did that thing use oil. So I switched to WallMart. $8/ gallon vs $40/gal

Been running Walmart ever sence. Just dump it in. As much oil as Ski-Doo's use you will never have to worry about oil failure issues.

How do you clean your power valves (are these also called RAVE valves??)? I have never heard of this before. Please let me know how to do this! ...and how often should you do this????

Switched from doo mineral oil to CO-OP synthetic oil a few years back, took out the crank bearing within the first 1200km, new motor under warranty, lasted about 700km, switched back to doo oil and never had a problem since, 5000 km on last motor. Had a buddy did the same thing, only his rod bearing went and smashed a hole in the cases. So just be careful when running cheap oil, and don't cry when it fly's apart in the middle of nowhere.

remove the black cap with the red center, take care not to lose the spring inside. Remove the two allen screws holding the valve in place. take it apart and clean it with electrical cleaner and a wire brush, when you done make sure your gaskets are good and put it back together making sure you put them back in right side up.

Hey . . . did you buy that sled from a guy in north idaho?
Nope, a guy here in Denver.

As for the engines blowing up, I ride with a lot of guys that use the Wal-Mart oil and they all have had the pistons go within about 3000 miles. But, everyone of them that tear the engines apart (and they are experienced mechanics) say that the cylinders look flawless and that there is not a lack of oil or lubrication. Hope the oil does not cause these piston problems! Would the Rave/Power Valves not being cleaned caused piston failure????

Oh, and how often should you clean these power valves?

I totaly agree . . I have owned several ski-doo's over the last 20 years and have never had an engine failure, and I have always used the recommended oil. I see no reason to run cheap oil in a sled that costs 10k. Injection oil is alot cheaper than a rebuild. Everyone I know that HAS had a failure has been using non OEM oil.
